doesn't matter much. Forwards got better today but I had no issue with the team before today. it is what it is

it's a cap thing.
We've all done the numbers.
The only way the cap was working next year was in trading Jugs and even then it was close.

Sheary will walk at the end of the year. If they sign Rodrigues it will be to much less than Kahun got.
I like Kahun, but he's not worth the contract he'd probably be asking for.

Given the addition of Zucker, one of Kahun, McCann, Horny and or Murray was gonna have to go next year for cap reasons. Even a buyout of Johnson wouldn't have avoided that.

The opportunity for Crosby & co. to win it is narrowing. This trade is about “the now” and not to foresee its impact in the future. It is a gutsy play by GM Rutherford ... all chips in! Can’t criticize somebody who wants to win. This is what it is all about.

I'm not sure what you think Kahun could have asked for he is an RFA coming off an entry level deal without arbitration rights. Those usually end up team friendly.
Rodriguez could have been had for a late round pick and If Kahun was gonna want more than he's worth trade him for a pick. He's better than Sheary.
Acquiring two tiny forwards doesn't really help survive the grind of the playoffs
