Description
Projected lines added, probably better for a forum post but whatever.

So as a Bruins fan, I am super back and forth between what I think about this deadline. I love the addition of Kase and really think he can be a 25-30 goal 50-60 point guy WHEN HEALTHY which is key. Im fine with the package they gave up, Andersson is solid but dealt from a position of major depth. 1st in a deep draft hurts but obviously they get rid of 4.5 mill of Backes.

For the Ritchie deal, Im just not a fan of the way the Bs handled their assets. Ritchie has eclipsed 30 points once in his career and Heinen, even on a bad stretch this year is going to easily hit it. If they knew Heinen wasnt going to be apart of their future they shouldve dealt him in the offseason for something better. A 35+++ point very good TWF should get more in return than a 30 point bruiser. With that being said, I think Ritchie is going to mesh really well. Ritchie-Coyle-Bjork can be a line that does it all and if Cassidy chooses to keep Kuhlman up there instead of Ritch, Kuraly, Ritchie and likely Wagner is a hell of a 4th line.

Biggest miss in my opinion is Palmieri. Obviously we dont know the ultimate price that NJ would've traded him for, but Id find it hard to believe that a package of Vaakanainen, Heinen, and 2 2nds wouldnt have gotten it done. 2 year acquisitions are massive, the price you would've potentially paid for Palmieri this year wouldnt have been all that more than what NJ wouldve wanted next year at the deadline. They only have so many years to compete with the core and with Tampa, Wash, Pitt etc all making biiiig moves, I feel a bit let down.

East is going to be a MASSIVE dog fight. top 4 teams in the league are already in it and Carolina and NYI improved a ton.
Id give the deadline a B- overall
The team improved now and for the future contracts for Krug, Debrusk etc, im just not sure they gained enough to trump Tampa and the rest

honestly i think it was fine. youll probably see ritchie coyle bjork for a bit. see what that looks like like you said. I dont think the trade was all that bad. Ritchie provides what brett was supposed to. big body, not afraid to hit/thrown punches when needed. i agree heinen should have been dealt. I think him regressing 2 years in a row was them saying alright he isnt the player we thought he was lets get something of need right now. they saved 1.3m cap in the process for the offseason. dont take that cap savings for granted its key. Think about Barclay Goodrow going for a 1st! prices were all over the place this deadline. Im glad we still have our major assets.

I love it. They dumped Backes added a potential goal scoring RW and some much needed size and grit. Heinen has been in constant regression and his trade value was slipping. They desperately needed a FW with size, push back, net front presence. I was hoping for Bennett or Watson but Ritchie works, might even be better.

I don’t think Palmeiri was ever on the table. NJ was going to listen to all offers of course but it was going to have to be an offer they just couldn’t refuse. Pair of 2nds Vaak Heinen is refusable.

I was hoping for Barclay Goodrow or a big 3rd pair RD. Greg Pateryn maybe. But no way was Goodrow worth what he went for so glad it was not us, sucks it was TB.

And glad no Jumbo or Kovi.

The Ritchie deal is horrible. The Kase deal is okay. Both could work out well, both could be total duds. Lots of question marks. I think this was a bad deadline. If there’s ever a team that should be all in, it should be the bruins. Their window will not be open long. Should have ponied up for Palmieri, and I think they were trying to. It just didn’t work for whatever reason.

I don't know why you guys thought Palmieri was available. His style of play doesn't age poorly and the Devils are razor thin at RW. Fitz has said repeatedly he needs men in the room to groom the kids and wasn't looking to move Zajac or Palms without a knock me off my feet offer.

I think this deadline was def not B-. Kase has the upside on a very good team to be that missing link on 2rw. Ritchie is like a valuemart kreider. They needed a big boy since what happened last yr and heinen was just the odd man out with having regressed seasons the past 2 yrs and not taking that step forward in growth, and with guys like bjork over taking him on the depth chart. Not only was Sweeney addressing needs for RIGHT NOW but also the future. Both of these additions are young, on cheap deals and have term. Based on the inflated market for high end players this yr and what BOS gave up, Sweens did very good.

Also wags > kuhlman

I don’t mind the additions, the biggest thing for me, at least on surface, both moves were lateral moves. I know there was more to the moves than just the players they got back. I don’t look at the Bruins today and think they did anything to push the needle. A lot of teams in the East really made a push, like most ppl have said on here the East is gonna be a dog fight. There’s just gotta be a point and time where the front office works with urgency to give the core a really really good chance to win the cup. Too worried about the longevity of the organization. In all reality the bruins will have to enter a rebuild/restructure once this core is finished. Too much parity in the NHL to worry about the future, especially with the state the Bruins are in. I’m overall disappointed after today, but I get the vision Sweeney and co. have for the organization.

What do you think Hienen was worth in terms of picks.
I submitted an ACGM rifght before the trade happened that had Hienen for a 2nd and a 4th (hes still a youngish middle 6 forward that isnt injury prone and is pretty good, just doesnt play the bruins system well). Hienen was bound to go but i figured it would be for a pick that they could either flip for someone else, or use to pick another Hienen like player lol

Thought Palmieri addition was the most worthy TDL target (however it takes two to tango and good to see the farm was not mortgaged as a result). May be crazy talk to some on here but what about Kase to 2RW and can/does Studnicka get 3RW time (too early)?
Heinen regressed, was press-boxed and passed on the depth chart. Backes is 100% gone (retention + Ritchie discount).

* Be an A++ if Krug is re-signed in the coming days with the extra $$.....
