*Conditions: New Jersey receives a 2020 4th round pick if Vatanen plays in 5 regular-season games this season. The pick upgrades to a 2020 3rd round pick if Vatanen plays in 12 regular-season games this season, or if Carolina makes the playoffs and he plays in 70% of their playoff games.

If Vatanen resigns in Carolina and is healthy next year they could potentially have the greatest defensive core in history of the NHL.

Vatanen has been hurt lately and his value has dropped. This trade is def. a disappointment as a Devils fan.

Check out some of those Detroit teams in the late 90s and 2000s.

Even Nashville more recently.

What a cheap price to pay! Big win for Carolina and wow do they look great for playoffs!! They could've probably gotten a goalie tho. Craig Anderson would've been a good fit.

Sami Vatanen for two good prospects and potentially a third? I do not see how people are saying that Carolina won this trade when Vatanen is a rental. This Devils got the edge on this deal.

Let's keep in mind that Vatanen is on IR and that there is no return date for the defender.

Well i mean Kuokkanen is the only prospect here and he's going to be a mid to top 6 guy, Claesson is 100% not a prospect the guys 27 has 150ish gp and 28 points. Yeah and there's also no return date for the nhl... lets hope its within the next 8 months

What makes you think he will be a mid to top 6 player? He hasn't proven he even belongs in the NHL at this point.

I mean he's only 21 and there have been plenty of good players that didn't make the league until they were 24+. That and he put up good numbers in the AHL

Well, this trade looks really good for NJ, Kuokkanen has looked really solid in NJ and they get him back in FA,

I hated this trade initially but Devils definitely won the trade

Kuokkanen was great this year and Vatanen is washed

So all those people who said Carolina won must feel pretty silly lul. Never declare a winner till after a year

Kukkanen single handedly made it a NJ victory
