Boy, that's a lot of cap space to carry over into next year. Too bad Alex Pietrangelo has absolutely no interest whatsoever in signing here. Doesn't anyone know a nice, single actress to introduce him to?

Minus the $4M bump from the PERRY buyout.

I like the moves made

Getting a potential top 6er in Heinen who at his lowest season is more productive point-wise than Ritchie, I'll make that 1 for 1 every chance I get

Taking a Flier on Milano, who like the Heinen deal, worst case posts similar production to Shore, but has upside

Irwin deal is pretty much a wash but we get a 6th so I guess we came out on top there

Sprong seemed doomed to stay in SD, not the biggest fan of Djoos, would have rather seen a right shot Dman come back but oh well

We add Joel Persson for a 7th, and A.Redmond nice to add a depth RD with how much we need one at a small cost

A 4th for Grant is what I've been saying the return will be for weeks, no surprise there but at least we get the pick we gave for Deslauriers back

Gonna lump the Kase deal in here too, Kase for whatever reason wasn't really working here, Getting a first and a solid B prospect in Andersson is nice, Backes is of little consequence to us

Needs haven't changed from a week ago but we've added some nice pieces at some areas of weakness that could turn into steals for us, I'd give the Ducks deadline week or so a solid B, sure we could have seen a better return for Kase but I'm personally a fan of that deal for us still, Heinen and Milano could turn out great but worst case they are a wash for what we gave up, added a 1st, 4th and 6th, so while not spectacular it was a good week of business I feel

I, too, give it a B because I wouldn't have made the Grant trade but, as you say, at least we got the Des Lauriers pick back. Of course I really love the Kase trade and only wish we could have made a Larsson-for-Weegar deal. But maybe that just wasn't on the table.

I was pretty strongly on the side of move Grant for whatever gets offered, even a 4th for a bottom 6 guy on a team competing for the draft lottery is a win in my eyes

I'm hopeful GMBM makes a deal for a second pair RD around the draft and depending how the lottery plays out we get one of Lafreniere, Byfield, Stutzle, Lundell, Raymond, Holtz, Perfetti, Drysdale or Rossi

Okay, since you and I have virtually nothing to look forward to until the draft lotteries in the spring, here's my handicapping of the draft pool:

1. LaFreniere
2. Byfield
3. Raymond
4. Drysdale
5. Holtz
6. Perfetti

These are Anaheim's choices in order, of course. Other teams won't have such an elevated need for a defenseman.

What I'm worried about is Ottawa having one pick ahead of ours. Is their strategy to get two of the really highly-rated forwards? Or one star forward and the best defenseman in the class? If the latter, then Ottawa can assure themselves of achieving that aim by picking Drysdale at #3 or #4 and not waiting until their second pick to take him.

After Laf my ranking is way different than yours ahah

1. Laf
2. Stutzle
3. Byfield
4. Drysdale
5. Raymond
6. Perfetti
7. Lundell
8. Holtz
9. Rossi

Say the pick order doesnt change from now
Det - Laf
LA - Byfield
OTT
ANA
OTT (SJS)

I 100% think Drysdale goes 3 in that scenario if OTT wants him, They know we need RD help and he likely wont be there at 5, I'd be fine with that if we get Stutzle at 4

The only UFA who appeals to me is Radko Gudas, as a kind of Kevin Bieksa kind of guy. I think that the Dylan DeMelo clipper has sailed, as did the Jared Spurgeon frigate.

The trade market (given our assets) is probably limited to upcomers like Scott Mayfield and Mackenzie Weegar. Most of the guys I really covet (Pesce, Carlo, Pulock, Marino, Fox, etc.) are almost certainly not available. Troy Stecher is only a stopgap solution. Erik Cernak in Tampa is probably only reachable via offer sheet, and why would he come here if the Lightning really make an effort to keep him?

I'm jotting these down on a sheet with three columns: after the mid-terms, after the final rankings, and the night before the draft. Anybody else care to get in on this? I'll be the group secretary.

I don’t think they go after a top 4 RD this offseason. I think they think they’re fine with Manson and Gudbranson going into next season. Unless they get blown away by a deal for Manson they have 5 of their 6 D spots set for next season. Lindholm, Manson, Fowler, Gudbranson, and Guhle/Larsson/Mahura.

Idk enough about the draft prospects right now but I think if they get in the lottery and pick top 3, they should consider using a Jones or Comtois package for young potential top 4 dman that’s already gotten NHL minutes. Or a young scorer. I’m not sure who tho. Cernak for Jones has been something I liked the idea of.

Overall, I'm happy with how the TDL went. The only move I don't like is the Ritchie trade, but that's only because Heinen is just so vanilla. Not a bad player, but doesn't really excel at anything. Reminds me of Logan Shaw. Would have preferred a pick to be honest. Some are saying the Kase deal was bad and BM should have got more. I'm going to assume that was the best deal on the table. It's not what I hoped for, but, if it's a question of taking the deal or not, I'd take the deal because Kase's value was only going 1-way. The rest are good deals. Getting anything for Grant, Holzer, Shore is a win in my book. Losing Sprong sucks and as that Pettersson trade continues to look terrible for us. I don't understand why he was never given an opportunity here. At least we have Sprong 2.0 in Milano, who I believe is a better team player whilst also suffering the same defensive deficiencies as Sprong.

I wouldn't. We need to get younger in that position. Unless we're trading Rakell to EDM for Bouchard or to NYR for Nils Lundkvist, I just stand pat with what we have. The draft is the best way to improve RD. Lots of RH D-men will be available around our 2nd 1st round pick.
