This is essentially the Blues trading Pietrangelo, Parayko, Thomas, and a 1st for Matthews. The Blues m.o. has been to win as a team, much easier to do when the top players make 7.5m or less. Matthews is a luxury that we can't afford IMO.

You don't trade 22 year old elite/franchise changing centres and get better immediately. Core shake up would come from moving Marner or Nylander to be more realistic. If Matthews was dealt the Leafs would aim for a much higher ceiling return, guys with more team control would be the key.

Also that Edmonton trade is absolute trash. 2 1st round picks for a guy that's been riding shotgun to Draisaitl.. and RNH barely plays centre. So that's not replacing him.
