Initial Creation Date: Feb. 24, 2020

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Last year I posted a trade of Jake Gardiner for Roope Hintz only to be met with protest at trading a top 4 dman for an unknown prospect. Well, we lost Gardiner for nothing and Hintz is a solid third liner. I also proposed a trade of Kapanen and a second for Skjei only to be met with laughs. He was traded today for a 1st rounder and nothing else, and its the latter of the 1st rounder. The Leafs could of released Ceci and would be in a better position than they are now. It would be tight next year, but they'd have enough to sign Dermott, Hintz, and Mikheyev.

Every Ranger fan I’ve heard from on that trade today is dying laughing that canes gave up a first for Skjei. Just because one team was willing to overpay doesn’t mean every team should

"The Leafs could of released Ceci and would be in a better position than they are now." Don't know how you figure that ..a released Ceci still would resulted in a 3.4m cap hit and you still gotta replace him.

They acquired him at the beginning of the season then signed him as an RFA. Released him right then and there would cost them nothing.

That's the perception, but not true. Sens had already mad a qualifying offer before July 1st, so the Leafs were taking that contract. The fact the the official signing happened after July 1st, doesn't really matter. If Ottawa had not made that qualifying offer, Ceci would have been a UFA. You acknowledge he was a RFA not a UFA. The only reason he was a RFA was because of the pre July 1st qualifying offer by the Sens.

I see, I didn't know, I thought they just aquired the rights then signed him because they needed a RHD. I still think Dubas should have gone after Skjei especially now and I'm sure he could of found a suitor for Ceci even at that cap hit, its only a one year deal.

Look like the Rangers who need to dump cap for next season, got rid of Skjei for that purpose. Seems likes good deal for the Canes. I guess the Leafs got their LHD in Muzzin without giving up a first rounder, though a competent RHD might cost them a first rounder and more.
