Question for MTL Fans

Created by: Claesson4Norris
Team: 2019-20 Ottawa Senators
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 25, 2020

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Hypothetical: Montreal misses the playoffs and their pick is 10th overall. Sens hit on one of their two lottery picks and get that coveted 1st overall pick. Say for whatever reason Habs ownership decide that they need to have the French superstar, and are willing to pay a hefty price to get it done.

Habs Fans: what is the absolute most you would be willing to pay to make it happen?

If I'm Ottawa I don't do it without one of Caulfield or Suzuki coming back. Maybe even more. Picking the French guy 1st overall in Montreal would be really funny. Again.

A **** ton. I would think that maybe guys like Tatar Danault could be interesting for Ottawa because they could be flipped for a lot and the return for both would make the global return way bigger. I’m thinking those two, 10th overall, Suzuki and more? IDK how the value would work. Brook, Ylonen, Domi and other young assets would be available for sure. Only guys I wouldn’t really deal right now are Caufield, Kotkaniemi and Suzuki, but if you insist that one of Suzuki or Caufield would have to be included, I would deal Suzuki, since I don’t want Caufield scoring goals on use for a decade.

If Dorion get's 1st overall....he's keeping it no matter what. Only for the reason he's probably gonna love sticking it to the Habs crowd in MTL....

But since this is a hypothetical.... I still wouldn't offer Caufield or Suzuki...those are the guys you want to play with Laf.

So basically anyone else goes. KK + 10th overall + 2021 1st unprotected + Domi +

Unless the other Ottawa pick is #2 or #3 then you don’t make that deal.

If suppose Ottawa has 1 and 2 though I’d say

To MTL: 1st overall
To OTT: 10th overall, Suzuki, Caulfield

It would take that level of package

Maybe there is a scenario where Habs flip their pick, and a guy like Tatar for a higher pick, and then package that higher pick along with whatever else to Ottawa. Sort of like what happened with the Sedin Draft.

yeah that makes sense. 9th OVR + Tatar could get pick #3 if a bubble team wins the lottery.

Dont listen to Drivefor25, you know he doesn’t have knowledge for hockey. Like Blazingbat said Suzuki is definitely off the table, I would say the same for Kotkaniemi and Caufield but I’m not sure if Bergevin really really likes Caufield THAT MUCH.

You are insane if you think for one second MTL offer Suzuki and their 1st for Lafreniere. Suzuki is ****ing good

I have a completely different line of thinking. OTT already has too many prospects. Yes, that's a thing. It's when guys get drafted and realize their best chance of making it into the NHL are to wait 4 years and choose their own destination. OTT needs to package those 2nds and the NYI 1st into a mega move up the draft board for (3) top 10 picks. How many 2nds...you decide...it depends on where in the top 10 I guess, but point being go for the TOP end talent. The 3rd/4th liners you can sign as a UFA.

I agree with everything here.

PD can't be using all those picks. Would create a huge backlog of prospects.

That said, having a good amount of prospects isn't necessarily all that bad.
- you don't have to rush anyone;
- First Contracts out of entry-level isn't inflated;
- All the prospects grow up together through the system;
- Higher chance on hitting on good NHLers outside of the 1st round

I hear ya and agree with what you're saying too. I just think it's playing with fire considering OTT already pretty stocked farm system and SEVEN 1st and 2nd rounder. I'm not saying trade the entire draft for the #10 OA, but if another...say top 5 pick becomes available... I'd at least have to consider the trade.

Ok well, let's flip it.

How many seconds do you think it would take Chicago to move down 15 spots (from 7OA to 22OA)?

Ooo Dang. I knew you were going to put me on the spot. It's a different mind set at the draft than now. At the TDL...players are placed as a higher priority than picks. At the Draft...picks are placed at a higher priority than players. I'd probably throw a curveball at Dorion.

IF the Hawks get the #7...which remains to be seen now that they won't be stopping the puck from going in the net as often...

The NYI 1st I think is a given. no? Maybe we just assume that's part of it?

Shane Pinto is a UND guy and Bowman loves those guys. Toews/Schmaltz/Drake/etc... He's a year older and playing well. Stan might be able to sell than to the fan base in CHI. Pinto might see OTT draft 2 wingers in the top 7? Maybe he's the guy that stays another year to see how things go and he's the one than does the 4 and out? You know better than I do how many top tier forward prospects OTT already has. I'd at least pitch this to Dorion.

Then I'd probably toss in Shaw's LTIR (assuming he's retired and truly LTIR) contract... Seems like an acceptable Melnyk piece.

Maybe the OTT 2nd??? IDK

Never thought of it that way, but very true ^ ^ ^

I really like Pinto. Especially after his world's junior. Definitely not untouchable especially considering the surplus of prospects Ottawa has.

So you're saying a mid-late 1st, an early 2nd and a good prospect (honestly, it can be anyone except for Batherson, Brannstrom, Norris, JBD or Formenton). Lol seems like I'm listing all our prospects but I'm really not hahahah.... for a contract (Shaw) and a top 10 pick.

I think I'd be ok with that. Both sides could justify the trade to fans.
