Brendan Smith might cost more than that to move. Buying him out is almost the same cost. 2020 is the year to be worried about, a bit of money on the buyout the year after is not as big a deal. But if you're moving him, don't retain.

Not sure Fast, Strome and Deangelo take those deals, all probably want a bit more. Honestly, the Rangers just need to weather the storm for this year in regards to salary cap and they should be doing much better the year after. In 2021-2022 they will have probably over 50 million in cap space, with losing the hits of Smith, Staal, and Lundqvist. They have a chance in a few years, but probably need to add a centre or two and maybe another forward. D group is pretty strong although trading Skjei opens up a hole on the left side.

yea but his salary will be knocked down on smith. Rangers pay his signing bonus July 1st which means his cap hit will go down. Trading Skjei didnt really open a whole. He was pretty bad in his own end this season. Make way for a new young guy to take the ropes. I feel Rykov and Robertson can make that jump.

I agree with everything you did. You have the rangers standing firm and keeping to it not really adding anyone just retaining some guys.. Except we wont get a first for georgiev. DeAngelo will be in that ballpark that's a good deal and strome as well. I do think hank is gonna go though and waive his NTC for his last year. Opens up cap space. We can get rid of Smith's whole contract to either Anaheim or Ottawa we have to add a draft pick to him and take a lesser pick back but its neccessary we need the cap. If hank decides he goes and smith can get traded we have space to sign an extra winger to make us stronger maybe a depth defenseman to help out on the blueline for just 1 year. We can make playoffs but they need to add something more if they open up more cap space to make them better team.
