2 years of jones for marner isnt worth it IMO.

I would have though about it long and hard in weeks past but, as it stands and knowing the Leafs cap situation and glaring needs, I would make this deal if it were ever on the table. (Unlikely that it ever would be though).

I think this is the right idea for the change that needs to happen. Maybe not this deal exactly, but something close. I wonder if a Nylander plus plus for Jones is enough?

While I do agree, if the deal came with an extension right away I would probably make that deal.

Jones is the perfect RHD,but unless this team plays Defense as a team, it'd be all for nothing and all the Homers will ACGM Jones away by January for a 1st plus whatever RHD is crushing it at that time, if you want Jones be patient and sign him as a UFA cause that cap would have risen significantly and you'd have the room to sign both Rielly and Jones to 9 x 7/8 year contracts

I agree that 2 years of Jones likely isn't worth it, but with Marner's contract gone, it gives lots of space to re-sign both Jones and Rielly. As well, I hate it, but I am starting to think that Marner may be the sacrificial lamb needed to drive team success. He seems to be the one who doesn't bring it when the team gets on a downward spiral. But who really knows outside the team.

signing 28 year old defenseman to 7 or 8 year contracts is a bad idea. They will be passed their prime and be starting to decline. Mitch will be 23 soon and is barely in the prime of his career.

Why give up nylander? He and Matthews are at every optional skate with Hyman. Some people put in the time and effort. I love marner but if push comes to shove... he is the first to go.

Look at Columbus’a record this season without Jones in the line up... 1-3-5... their only win was against a bad Ottawa team who was made even worse yesterday.... Columbus is in no position to move Jones for anything that doesn’t also include a replacement top 4 RHD.... Toronto doesn’t have that.
