lose Petro pt 2

Created by: mobluesfan
Team: 2020-21 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 25, 2020
Published: Feb. 25, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The most realistic one. Losing Petro and gaining nothing in return. Basically the same team, but with Mikkola taking the roster spot and we are still pushed close to the cap. This scares me because it is most likely to happen. Not a bad team, but not as much depth on D and you better hope Faulk can become a better Dman or at least what he was in Carolina for all those years. Maybe you trade Allen to free up Salary and get a LD. Maybe you try and trade Bozak to... or both. It's going to be a tough offseason.

IMO, if that happens, you buy out Steen, you trade Allen to whoever needs a 35-45 games goalie and you sign Brodie and you get a 25 games backup.

Plus Scandello should only get 2 mil maximum

Here's the problem with Faulk, defensively he is what he is now. He's not a good defender which was always his biggest knock. Granted, he could generate more offense so it wasnt as noticeable (See Kevin Shattenkirk). So I think this is pretty much what we will see. He'll put up maybe a couple more points, but maybe not. Defensemen typically do hit their prime right around now so maybe he'll hit his.

I was wondering about his contract. I know he was making $4m, so wasn't sure how much to come off of that. I figured he would be worth more than $2m though. He has looked like a perfect fit for us, albeit only a couple games. Much better than Faulk has all year.

Agreed on Scandella, but he was using the Bouwmeester contract as a comparison.
However, I think you trade Bozak and keep Steen. At least I'm sure it will be easier. My big question mark is Allen.

Dude Steen is a 4th liner and has a 5,75 mil AAV. That SUCKS, big time. Bozak is a very goof mid forward

If they want to resign him and that’s what he wants. They will make it happen. There are a lot of options. I think he will sign closer to the Josi deal.

I didnt even consider Jaybo, was just thinking he would be less than the $4m he was making. Players don't typically take that much of a pay cut. But I could see him taking less than $3.5. I think Bozak is the most likely to be traded because of his modified NTC. Steen probably still wont approve of any trade. I think out of the $5m+ guys we have, Bozak is the most likely candidate. I would also rather keep Perron as well. His production for $4m is pretty good, plus we all know he loves it here.

I completely agree on Allen, you need a capable backup, but $4.3 for a backup is a lot. I get keeping him this year to make sure on Binnie, but i wouldnt be surprised if he is traded at all to free up cap

I thought that to.... but he deserves more. He won a cup and that carries weight.

Agreed on Steen, but he does have value, not that much, but we cant trade him. We have had trades in place for him that he nixed. He only has one year left, then i would think he would be gone. I dont see a buyout, Armie never buys anyone out. He can't afford to throw away money like that.

I would think/hope since he’s won one already he’d be hungry for more and he’s in a good place for that.(St. Louis)

I'm ALL about that & I hope that you're right!! To me.. the only way the Faulk trade and insane extension makes sense is Armie knows Petro isnt coming back. So he wanted to get another RD as soon as possible locked up. Again, hope I'm wrong, but why else sign him to that extension?

Steen is the longest tenured Blue, plays a great defensive game and is maybe making three million too much. If we lose Pietrangelo, there's not much of a reason to dump him. He'll probably be the captain

Trading Bozak is more likely than trading Steen. It would be an easy transition to move Thomas from wing to his natural position of center. Steen will finish his career as a Blue - over paid at that.

You get more cap relief trading Bozak and he's an easy trade chip. Steen, not so much. Plus, without Steen likes like Kyrou, Sundqvist, and Barbashev don't develop into the players that they are. Steen is a solid 3rd liner just like Bozak. If you watch Steen, he does so many things that dont show up on the scoresheet. If I had it my way, I'd trade both, but it's not likely to happen.
