Personal opinion, but I'd give the Calder for Makar.

I have been watching Quinn Hughes alot this year and he may be the most dynamic and creative offensive defenceman I have seen for years and reminds me of Bobby Orr the way he skates. Makar is also a great young defenceman but Hughes is one step ahead of him in my opinion.

I have to give Benning alot of credit in he has put together a really good team. He has drafted really well, made some good UFA signings and made some really good hockey trades. This team could go alot deeper in the playoffs than most hockey fans realize.

What makar is by far superior in the offensive side of game than quinn. if makar didn't get hurt those few games there wouldn't even be an arguement of rookie if year.

Do you guys think those two players will take votes away from each other and a Elvis or Kubalik could sneak in if they continue to play well?

I'm not even remotely a Canucks fan, but I gotta agree with this. Makar may be (marginally) better at scoring but Hughes is a much better all-round player and deserves the Calder this year.

He has a better shot, if you say he's "far superior" in the offensive side of the game it just shows you haven't been paying attention.
