Description
Spent a lot of time thinking about signing Granlund instead, but I'd only want him at 4-4.75M and I don't think there's any way he comes that low. There's been rumors of a Risto->TOR move being pushed to the summer, and the more I think about it, the more it might work. I know a lot of Leafs ACGMs are moving Kapanen and Kerfoot like hotcakes, and I think they could fit in really well here. Toronto gets a physical, heavy minutes RHD who will do well if his partner can hit exit passed, along with a young stay-at-home RHD who can easily log 3rd pairing minutes. Dobber isn't too high on him, but his defensive play in Rochester has been excellent.

Cap hits are practically the same, Toronto gets to keep its big-4 together while making much needed improvements to their defensive right side.

I don't love the idea of Cozens in the NHL, but unless he can go NCAA for a year, I think a year in the WHL again will be a year wasted. I think playing with an vet like MoJo and a hustler/creator in Kahun will make it easier for him, compared to the awful lineups we had Mitts on.

Still plenty of money in the bank for Dahlin's contract.

I don't see Buffalo trading with Toronto, especially Risto. I like your #'s on the signings.

We will need a new goalie, enough to save on this position. Hutton is washed and unstable. I don’t see Botterill trade Risto to Toronto, and Borgen too.

I don't like it from a larger view, but there's been rumors of it so I just wanted to explore. And yeah thanks, I think we'll be somewhere close to those. Looking at it, I'd much rather have Monty over Risto (long-term) if Risto's next contract is going to be 6.5+.

I think Ullmark has shown this season that he can do 55 games and be a guy to rely on. Hutton is different, I tried finding a team that might want him, and my only guess is maybe Anaheim if Miller retires. There's just a decent selection of backups being available as UFAs this summer. If we can move him, sure do it, but I doubt it, and having him around as a backup might be preferable to giving a guy 2-3 years when we really need only one season out of them. Then I think Johansson might be ready to play backup.

Also, from LeBrun on last Wednesday:

I will tell you that I do believe there has been some level of communication between the Sabres and Leafs, and I think that thing has been left at right now that the two teams can’t make that go before next Monday. If they even go back to it, it would be a summer thing for cap reasons and all kinds of things. Maybe I’m wrong and they get back at it.

So yeah, not a sure thing by any stretch of imagination, but the idea was intriguing to me enough to explore it.
