Healthy Lines

Created by: SankFeravalli
Team: 2019-20 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 26, 2020
Published: Feb. 26, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The top 2 lines have a combination of playmaker (MacKinnon/Rantanen), shooter (Burakovsky/Kadri), and power forward (Landeskog/Nichushkin). Namestnikov adds to a solid two-way third line with some offensive pop with Compher & Donskoi. The fourth line is reunited and can bring a lot of energy. Unfortunately Tyson Jost is the odd man out, although he could potentially slot in for Nieto.
The defense pairs don’t change at all.
Namestnikov jumps on the PK, although I’m not sure if they’re going to use him to take faceoffs so Compher will probably continue to see a good amount of PK time. Namestnikov could potentially play on PP2 in Donskoi’s spot. That unit doesn’t play too much, so it may not matter.
Kaut goes back to the AHL as the Avs are back to having a deep group of healthy forwards, and his ELC can slide one more year if he plays fewer than 10 nhl games this year.

One other note I forgot to add in the description -
Jost or Nieto are the obvious candidates to come out of the lineup if/when everyone is healthy. Nieto is a pending UFA and I don’t see the Avs bringing him back, given the young player like Kaut and Bowers who should be on the team full time next year. Jost at 21 years old has more long-term value of course, whether it’s as a trade chip this summer or a player they continue to try to develop. Sitting in the press box won’t do much to help his development or his trade value. Personally I think Nieto is a better addition to this lineup, given his PK ability and the chemistry he has with Bellemare and Calvert. I’ll be interested to see whether Bednar & Sakic take the win-now approach with Nieto or the development approach with Jost, especially considering you’re talking about a 4th line player.
There’s also a chance Kaut could stick around and slot in on that fourth line with Calvert & Bellemare if he continues to play well, although I think that’s less likely.

Yep, these are the lines. Flip flop Bura and Rantanen in games if when in the mood.

Colin wilson and his healthy is going to be such a wild card going into the playoffs.
If he starts skating anytime soon (no brace, no crutches, no limp at all at all the team events and out door game)....having him in the mix too, thats just silly quality depth for the bottom 6

Is Colin Wilson going to be better than Jost, Nieto, even Kaut or Kamenev after missing so much time though? I guess you get him into practice on the “5th line” and see how he goes. It is nice that they could have another forward body without spending a call up.

That's the big thing. Nieto has accepted his role and a 4th line guy and pk guy for us, i don't see us slotting jost in that spot over him in playoffs. Even scoring wise nieto is out pacing jost, i think we're going to move him over the offseason, especially with the rise of Kaut thats just another spot taken away from Jost. I could see nieto being brought back for that exact reason that he fills that role and we don't really ask him to score, but his 20 points this season is just icing on the cake.

no clue. But when healthy he’s been effective and someone bednar trusts. Super interesting line up if he does get healthy

How good did Jost and Kaut both look tonight...if they continue to play that way while Rantanen, Kadri, and Calvert are out, Bednar is going to have some really tough decisions

If Jost gets more PK time while some of the guys are out and if Kaut starts to get some....I think it will be very tough to for Bednar to take them out of the line up.
Kaut just plays such a solid pro game.
