Ya sorry I'll definitely pass on that, Leafs are slightly upgrading JVR and giving up 2 elite prospects

Lol fans of either side will look at this and think they're getting screwed. As a non biased spectator, Both teams are giving up a lot.

general overview though:

Kucherov > JVR
Point < Nylander
2nd rounder = Kapanen (At this point it might as well be even until Kapanen proves he's an NHL'er)

The difference in Kucherov upgrade is the difference in the Nylander downgrade IMO. Point isn't as good as Nylander but he is still very good. Another Tyler Johnson in the making, marks my words.

Whatever, at this point its a matter of preference so both can be right but in terms of true value the trade is pretty darn close to even.

I wouldn't say the value is terribly unfair for either team but it doesn't make sense for a team on the cusp of the SCF to be trading an elite winger for futures and for a team that finished dead last to be trading valuable future prospects for a win now player

I bet you are one of those guys that thought TB was losing Stammer to TML though. It's not out of the realm of possibilities that Stevey Y moves Kuch to be able to manage the cap. Nylander can help right now and JVR will fit into their top 6.

My opinion is value wise it definitely works. Needs wise it isn't a terrible idea either. TML gets a top line W which they need once JVR walks. Marner can develop down the lineup for a few years and annihilate 2nd and 3rd line opposition.

Tampa Bay would never ever agree to that deal. kucherov is one of their best players and will be for many years. Tampa Bay isn't looking in the future this much and if they get JVR it would just make more sense for them to sign Kucherov as they have enough Cap Space to take JVR on. Makes no sense. On top of that Jimmy Vesey? No way in hell will he sign with the Leafs

Imo the center piece of the trade is Nylander in terms of value. JVR is good for 20/50 next to Stamkos or T Johnson and Kapanen is nothing special but if Nylander is as good as he is billed to be and close to NHL ready then TB wins the trade. The question for Yzerman is whether he's willing to trade a known commodity for a prospect that can go either way
