Here is my ideal, hopefully some what realistic, summer for the OTT Senators.
Contracts are offered and accepted by Mandolese, Nurmi and Wilkie before June 1st, 2020
Draft
The lottery has been completed and the balls don't fall OTT's way. They end up with the 5th and 7th OA picks in the draft. These two picks bring in:
- #5 Jamie Drysdale
- #7 Cole Perfetti
- OTT trades DAL 2nd Rd and WPG 3rd Rd picks to ARI for Stepan and Demers (This may even be an over pay if ARI is truly looking to shed salary. Although personally I think both players are very good at what they do)
Free Agency
- Bernard-Docker accepts entry level deal
- Balcers signs 2 yrs, 2 way deal
- Beaudin signs 1 yr, 2 way deal
- Brown signs 4 yrs, 1 way deal
- Chlapik signs 1 yr, 2 way deal
- Daccord signs 2 yrs, 2 way deal
- Duclair signs 1 yr, 1 way deal
- Jaros signs 2 yrs, 2 way deal
- Paul signs 2 yrs, 1 way deal
- Tierney signs 2 yrs, 1 way deal
- Englund signs 1 yr, 2 way deal
- Hawryluk signs 1 yr, 2 way deal
- Borowiecki signs 2 yrs, 1 way deal
- Szwarz signs 1 yr, 2 way deal
- Noeson signs 1 yr, 2 way deal
- LaDue signs 1 yr, 2 way deal
- Conacher signs 1 yr, 2 way deal
Start of 2020-21 Season
Perfetti and Drysdale start the year on the NHL roster but after 9 games are sent back to their junior teams. Cheap UFA's are brought in to fill those spots (IE: Noeson, LaDue). Personally insulating the youth is imperative next year once again. We can't expect everyone to step in immediately and play big minutes.
This has OTT at 50 NHL Contracts, 2 of which are to Jr players, which if Perfetti and Drysdale go back to their OHL teams, don't count to the total. So 48 standard player contracts, which gives them room to add early on next yr if needed.
Thoughts??? Did I miss anyone, you really want signed? What about other potential players available this summer, due to teams salary cap restraints? As you can see I love this ****...haha
Both Stepan and Demers have 1 yr left on their deals. If another tanky year is in store, they can be dealt at the deadline, as rentals. Personally I think they can play a key role in insulating the younger players and providing better depth up front and on the right side defense
ARI
2020 2nd round pick (DAL)
2020 3rd round pick (WPG)
Additional Details:
ARI will be looking to shed salary at the draft in order to sign pending UFA's and RFA's.
Thats a huge overpay for Connor Brown @ 5m over 4 Years. Realistically you could get him quite easy at 3m over 3-4
I hope you're right....I went off of what was given to White after what he posted last yr in terms of totals. Brown will pass those numbers this year and be a UFA in 1 yr, so you're eating up his UFA years, which is always more expensive. It will probably end up being one of Dorion's classic 1 yr show me deal and then he'll be dealt at the deadline next yr as well...

Unfortunately, no. Connor Brown has been the most consistent player on the Sens and works just as hard every night. He'll get 4.5 minimum. He also has the luxury of saying to his agent "make sure I get Colin White money". He is also an RFA with arbitration rights which can work in Ottawa's favour but... it leaves a poor taste in the players mouth after having to deal with management and an arbitrator saying mean things about you.

Yeah, I would hope Dorion is past that now. Ottawa has got to start keeping players...
I really like the idea of acquiring those two veterans from Arizona, this helps the Yotes with the cap and won't ever create a headache for the Sens, adds some leadership and they'll be on expiring deals.. Demers provide Chabot with a little more stability rather than being paired with Zatisev, Boro, Jaros (if he resigns). I would love to add Rielly in the deal back (would even retain salary), to create more opportunity for D in the organization. I believe Wolanin deserves a fair shot as a regular and would keep Boro as the 7th D for his leadership in the locker room. Stepan also works well, would be comfortable trading Tierney and running with Stepan, Norris, Brown, Anisimov down the middle.
OTT don't need stepan or demers, since ARI needs the cap OTT will offer a 3rd and 4th at most both are UFA, rebuilding teams don't trade 2nds for UFAs for any reason, i do not think OTT will pick Drysdale, thy needs forwards vastly more than D, they have 3 firsts this year, they will go with need over best avail and between 3 and 8th pick they are about even.

I mention that a 2nd and 3rd may be an over pay, but there are other ways for ARI to move cap as well, that doesn't require them giving away two of their better players, so I look at the deal as a win win for both tms. In terms of not drafting drysdale, I couldn't disagree more. Drysdale might be the most important player available this year. RHed dmen are always the most sought after itme in the NHL, so why not draft a stud at that position. Erie's coach recently said that every forward on their team has a positive corsi when Drysdale is on the ice. That sounds pretty good to me...
