Description
Assuming the Caps win the cup, next year they turn to some of their depth guys to move into the starting lineup. If they don't win then they probably do some magic to get some guys with a better reputation and experience. Fehervary was thought to be the closest to being NHL ready on the blue line between him and Alexeyev. Boyd steps into the 3RW spot because he's shown he can produce when given the opportunity to play. Kovalchuk resigns just cause he enjoyed playing with Ovi so much and wants to try for a repeat. Had to save some money for Vrana and Ovi on their next deals. Assuming Vrana is in the ~5-7.5mil range and Ovechkin wants ~10-10.5mil on next deal.

No Holtby because he won't resign if Washington is gonna expose him for Seattle and he'll want 10mil so they let him walk. So Copley gets the nod to be the backup and be exposed to Seattle.

Getting younger by re-signing Dillon and Kovalchuk, and then signing Thornton? I don't know if youth is the focus aside from goaltending which I think Copley and Sam should be able to pull off 40 games each quite decently.

It's mostly on the blue line. Thornton is just a extra forward. He probably wouldn't accept that role it was just for fun since he is upset about not being traded. And Boyd is younger than Panik. I'll change the title, but it was more of a way of saying they're using their prospects.

Make sure to trade for Chara at the deadline too, to infuse much needed further youth into the team!
