Buyout King Henrik? I find that extremely unlikely.

It wouldn't be the best PR move, but hockey is a business. Hank understands the market and he's been given plenty of chances to go somewhere else. While I agree that it's unlikely, I think it's well within the realm of possibility that we see this happen in the summer if the right situation comes up where they need to get him off the books. I think it's more likely Smith is headed to Ottawa than Hank gets bought out.

I think it's going to be extremely difficult for them to be competitive in 2020-21 because of their cap. Buying out Lundqvist just pushes the problem down the road, when they want to compete. If they let their bad contracts run out they will be taking about 25 million off the books for the next season between buyouts disappearing and losing Lundqvist, Smith and Staal. You will need all the cap space you can have to resign Zibanejab and Buchnevich. Maybe go shopping for a strong 2C as well. But I think another season of patience is necessary.

He's started three games since New Year's. If he'll agree to a trade they can try to find a taker, but who will want him at over $4million.
