Description
I don't expect there to be a ton of moves made this off-season unless the Caps have a first round exit in the playoffs (which seems a bit more likely now than most thought early this season). The roster is largely intact for the 2020-21 season, and long term contracts are unlikely to be handed out in FA this summer with Vrana, Ovi, and Samsonov due for new contracts for the 21-22 season.

The Caps signing Dell for three seasons gives them a capable backup goalie for Samsonov, and allows the Caps to expose a goaltender in the expansion draft. The Caps could certainly move Panik or Jensen (or both) to create more cap space/bring up NHL ready prospects, but the likely only NHL ready prospect (and this is even a stretch) is McMichael, since sending him back to the OHL for another year seems like a waste.

Depending on McMichael's development, if he can slot into the top six midway through the season, you can bump Oshie down to the third line and create a little more depth. The Caps could also move a prospect/pick to Seattle to select one of Panik or Jensen in the expansion draft, or depending on how the 20-21 season goes, you could have them select Oshie.

Why do you want Aaron Dell? He has been terrible.

His advanced metrics aren't that bad. I would prefer Halak or Khudobin, but I'm unsure of what their contract values would be, and if that'd be too rich for the Caps blood for a backup goaltender. For context, Dell has considerably better numbers this season than Holtby does, but Holtby has been really good lately.

I'm not sure Dell would perform much better than Copley, and Copley is half the price. Might just be better going with him if Kludobin is out of reach. That's who I want them to sign, but he'll probably be a mill or two more than they'd want to spend.

McMichael is 3 years away from the nhl they will let him take as much time as he needs to develop him and not rush him

What makes you think he's three years away from the NHL? The other piece is that he'll be too young to be in the AHL next season, and another year in London is probably not going to do him any favors in his development. I'm not positive he makes a contending Caps team next season, but if he's ready, he's ready.

They won’t rush him. There’s no room for him in the top 6 and if he plays he would just be put in burkys situation. IMO they will let him dominate in each league before he plays. They have the depth to let him fully develop 200 ft game
