Description
1st line: the fastest line in hockey. Ever. Probably not the best defensively though, lol. Would be worth the price of admission alone.

2nd line: I know it seems silly to break up the best line in hockey in 2020, but I think Granny brings a lot of the same skills Nuge does and it allows Nuge to center his own line. Lots of speed still, but also a great cycle line.

3rd line: more speed and skill with some physicality thrown in.

4th line: this line has played as high as 2nd line for the Oilers (when McDavid was out) and usually plays as the 3rd line. Getting bumped down and facing lesser comp should allow this fast forechecking line to dominate.

The defense isn't changed much, Larsson moved for forward help and Green re-signed to a cheap deal. From the last few games it looks like both Jones and Green can play as high as 2nd pairing, so having them as 3rd pairing should make things easier for them. There isn't one standout superstar on defense, just 6 guys competent guys who can all play in the top-4, all can defend, skate and produce offense. Bouchard is reportedly ready for the NHL now, I'm thinking he could play 2nd pairing starting October with Klefbom to shelter him a bit. Klefbom did the same thing with Persson earlier this year and Bouchard is a much better player.

I brought Greiss in because I don't think he'll re-sign in NY due to Sorokin's pending arrival. And there's a glut of goalies on the market this summer, so I don't think he'll be overly expensive either. I don't mind giving him an extra year of term if that's what it takes - Konovalov will be coming over for 2021-22 but I think Holland will want him to get a year in the AHL before getting NHL reps. Rodrigue won't be ready before 2022-23 either.

The contracts might not be perfectly accurate, but I have nearly $2.5M in cap space if some need to be adjusted.

Green is always injured, let him go.
4th line needs to play more than 9 minutes a night for me, I love them on the ice.
Love Griess, but I love Allen more and Blues need to free up cap to sign Pietro
Neal just buy him out. Nobody wants him
Larsson for Kap is what I would love to see, might have to throw in that 3rd round pick though, but its a hockey trade
Love Granlund and we should go after him.

But also this is the best for the Oilers is to run the top 3 centers deep. I just love the 4th line though and I would keep Benning

I like the approach. More speed is nice speed kills. Although I see Granlund making more and I doubt New Jersey takes that deal even though it would be nice. All in all a deadly team here for sure that top 9 is lethal. Don’t see benson making the team next year? I also have a feeling lavoie will make a strong case in camp but ultimately go to the AHL. Bakersfield should get some help with broberg and lavoie both heading over there. Finally a competent GM who knows to develop and with Keith and the scouting staff here to draft Edmonton will be very dangerous for years to come

I like Benning too, I just think if Holland is committed to using 3 young guys in the top-6 (Bear, Jones and Bouchard) he'll want another veteran for cover, which is why I didn't try to trade Russell too. And Tippett doesn't seem to trust Benning with anything more than 3rd pairing, whereas Green and even Russell can go up to 2nd occasionally.

I wonder about Granny too - his production has been way down ever since he joined the Preds but he's got skill and isn't too old: a 3-year contract pays him for his 28, 29 and 30-year-old seasons. I have no idea what he's worth on a 3-year deal, he's on pace to score 39 points this year so it can't be too high! Galchenyuk is another "cheap skill" option, although I wouldn't give him any term.

I think NJ is a potential partner for a Neal trade based on the fact that they signed Simmonds last summer looking for exactly the same type of player. It didn't work out, but Neal is a perennial 20+ goal scorer (except once) and proved this year that he's still a dangerous PP threat and the Devils have the 7th worst 5v4 G/60 rate in the league. And at $3.75M, he really isn't a bad deal and they have plenty of cap space.

I think Benson could make the team, but I don't get the impression Tippett is too hot on him, he didn't use him much and then sent him back down first chance he got. We'll see...

Lavoie will spend time in Bakersfield for sure, it's the Holland way. More rookies for Bakersfield... the team isn't great this year due to Edmonton stealing their best, but I love what Woodcroft and Manson are doing down there. All the call-ups are well prepared for the NHL - those guys deserve a medal.

I like this team, although I think we could get more for Neal. I’d also prefer to keep Benning and not re-sign Green.
