Pens aren't gonna have any interest in taking on 5 years of Jones at $5.75M. Even if that does get them Hertl.. I don't think there's much of a deal here to be made at all

Not in ten million years do we give up Hertl to move Jones. Doing this deal would mean we are rebuilding and if we do that im getting an A+ prospect for Hertl, not Murray and some cap dumps

They don't really need Murray as a 2G with Jarry in there, this way they get a great forward in the roster.

Also re-signing Murray would've probably cost around the same sum that Jones is currently earning, so money-wise there's not real difference.

I think there's plenty of reason for them to consider a move as such, even if Jones is quite bad...

You'd also receive a clear 1G in the move in Murray, and Simon is far from a cap dump.

Bjugstad needs to be added to make the money work both sides...but he has one year left and can be flipped for picks near the deadline.

The sharks trading Hertl wouldnt need a goalie because we are rebuilding. Hertl will not get moved

That's your point of view.

Even a rebuilding team needs a goalie. And Murray is still quite young.

Frankly I think they should consider it under a good return.

And this is, in my opinion, a quite good option.

I wouldnt even consider this in ten millon years. It might be fair value but the sharks should never waste an asset of Hertls value on getting rid of Jones. Id 100% rather buy him out

And pay the buyout cost for almost the rest of the decade?

I'm not saying the don't likely move Murray, I'm saying they're not paying close to $6M for a backup. They can move Murray to a ton of other teams for a better return

Dunno about that.

Goalies value are not that high on the market. Lehner proved that.

Getting Hertl is an absolute maximum they'd get with taking a bad contract in the process.

I don’t think either team does this trade.
Reason for the pens is that if they are going to have their backup make almost 6 million then they might as well keep murray as he is much better than Jones. And only having Bjugstad for 1 year who should be easy to trade even for a mid-late round pick rather than taking on a 4-5 year almost 6 million cap dump. Simon is the cheap forward for the bottom 6 that we kinda need.

The sharks don’t do it cause under no circumstances should they trade Hertl unless they get an absolute kings ransom. He’s young, good, and on a phenomenal contract. They should try to get out of Burns, Vlasic, Karlsson contracts if they are going to take an L on a contract. Jones might be bad, but I’m sure the sharks could also take the L on him and trade him for like a 7th to a team like NJ who could use a vet that can jump in as a possible starter but be backup to Blackwood at first.

If SJ can get out of that Jones contract without retention or buyout, I’d say something like Murray for Leblanc and mid round pick might be more likely. Or just for a 1st.
