Yes Murray to SJS

Created by: djsuperdock

Initial Creation Date: Feb. 28, 2020
Published: Feb. 28, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Yeah this is probably a pipe dream. The idea is that trading Murray needs to happen this offseason before the Seattle draft where they probably lose him for nothing. I love how this leaves the Pens outlook for 2021-22 as well (their last season to really go for a cup). Bjugstad comes off the books so they can afford raises for Marino and Blueger.

Me too, haven't see a ''next year'' that works in cap without trading Bjugstad. (not that I wouldn't)

Trading Murray just means we will lose a skater that we don’t want to lose unless we trade him for an exempt player. If we did this trade here is a list of the forwards we’d have to try to protect and wouldn’t want to lose.

1.) Crosby
2.) Malkin
3.) Guentzel
4.) Zucker
5.) Labanc
6.) McCann
7.) Rust
8.) Blueger
9.) Tanev (maybe)

But you are assuming that Murray would be willing to sign a deal specifically in order to get picked by Seattle.

You could also just expose LaBanc and be in the exact same boat (No Murray or Labanc)

Blueger getting picked would not be a major loss.

Well he is an RFA so he doesn’t really have much of a choice.

I’d rather go into the playoffs next year with 2 quality starters in case one gets hurt or goes into a slump rather than have DeSmith as a backup.

A quality, cheap, young fourth line center who has been solid and adds a little bit of scoring touch would be pretty bad for the pens to lose. Unless Hallander comes up and is ready by then, but as of right now that’d be a significant loss.

Murray has a lot of choice. Being a RFA doesn't make him indentured. You are going to lose somebody. Your #8 forward isn't a big deal. A 4C, as you put it, is almost best case scenario.

No kidding that we are going to lose someone, and well he either signs or he doesn’t play. Either way it doesn’t really matter.
And no that’s not a good scenario at all for a team that wants to roll 4 lines and already has 4.5 million in two other fourth liners. Plus by that time he will probably be 3C anyway.

Murray can be traded or sign with another team for compensation. He has lots of choices.

Its the expansion draft. If you think that losing a 4C as you called him, or at most your #8 eligible forward, is a big deal... tough crap. Hate Seattle then.

No way! That’s exactly what I said when I said “he either signs or he doesn’t play” either way doesn’t matter. The draft pick compensation would be more than what we would get for him in a trade so like I said, it would be pointless for the pens to trade Murray at all unless they are getting an expansion exempt player (as that’s what they’d get in draft picks for him).
