Team Canada

Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Line 1: Automatic. Not much needs to be discussed here.

Line 2: McDavid and MacKinnon were locks in my mind for two spots in the top-6. I put Huberdeau with them because he's left handed and is definitely capable of putting up points.

Line 3: This was the toughest one to get right and I went back and forth with all the combinations of Barzal, Tavares, Marner, Stamkos and Point. There are 2 duos there on the same team so it's tough to put one there without the other. I really think Barzal should be the center for this line, giving Canada 3 incredible skaters down the middle. From there, I had to go with Tavares on LW as the left handed player, previous experiences and partial chemistry with Barzal. On RW, I simply think Point is the best player between him, Stamkos and Marner and Point and Barzal on a line are two engines with legs that will never give out.

Line 4: Defensive oriented line. The only reason I have O'Reilly on LW is because Scheifele and Stone are right handed and nobody plays the off wing. O'Reilly can definitely take faceoffs for them though.

The defense was really tough to choose and I can't really pick a top or bottom pairing. Defense looks weak relative to past Canadian teams. It was really tough to leave Chabot, Theodore and Makar off but I ultimately went with experience. At least two of those guys will definitely be here in the future though.

Goalies were kind of whatever. Again weaker than past Canadian teams.

Scheifele is terrible defensively and can't win a faceoff for his life, Couturier would be a better choice for 4C on this stacked Canadian team.

People keep putting McDavid and MacK together but imagine being able to roll 3 lines, each anchored by either Crosby, McDavid, or MacKinnon. If Canada's down, or need a spark, or right after a PK, put them together. Otherwise I think the team benefits with one of these 3 guys on the ice at almost all times.

Glad to see Barzal and Point get some recognition tho

i think Mitch Marner should be on this team and especially for his PP and PK abiltities.

The only reason Scheifele is listed at center is so nobody plays their off wing, which Canada is usually against. O'Reilly will act as the center of that line.

I strongly considered Couturier for the 4th line, but I felt he didn't bring enough speed to fit with the rest of the team.

That was definitely something I considered, but Canada is so deep at center anyway that I don't think it's as big of a concern. U could definitely switch Barzal and MacKinnon though.

I really liked the idea of Barzal and Marner playing together, but at the end of the day I would take Point over Marner.

The powerplay is obviously fine given the firepower and the penalty kill should be as well with Bergeron - Marchand and O'Reilly - Stone being the main forward units with pretty much anyone else being able to play the odd shift as well.

Hamilton and Ellis should make it over Parayko and Doughty.
Theodore over Morrisey.
Couturier over Barzal.
Maybe go with Kuemper over Price.
