Agreed. Liljegren needs one more AHL year and Dermott should kept around since he's been proving lately that he's a solid d-man all around«

Yup. Everone thinks the teams needs the big RD fish with term. Holl has been surprisingly good. Dermott also. What's need is a stay at home D for Reilly so he can be Reilly. Don't need to blow it up to accomplish that...... I think.

Not having a full roster isn’t a realistic option.

Seems to be the current reality for a number of teams. Short term hit really. I will take my chances as opposed to a 3rd line that looks like a 4th.

Just turn the injury slider down like in Chel.

Chicago and Tampa. That's 2 going into next year. Rangers may get honourable mention depnding on Deangelo.

I mean you could make cap room by giving Mikheyev, Hyman money on that 3 year contract. (2,250,000 per x 3 years), Sign Malgin, Goat to 900K contracts. Sign Spezza to a 700K deal. Gives you an extra center to use in the lineup, emergency depth when Matthews eventually goes down to another shoulder injury.

If the team is super desperate for room, they could potentially move Freddie for a goalie like Mike Smith (2M x 1 year) and a slew of prospects/picks, then just hope the tandem is strong enough to carry the team. (Campbell did play very well in his first 4 or 5 Leaf games, Mike Smith could potentially be a 1B/1B situation)

Dermott is good but I'm not sure how he'll handle playing his off side. Trading him for a similar Dman who shoots right makes more sense IMO.

I mean, you also overpaid a bunch of guys and put the cap a million lower than it is expected to be so it shouldn't even be a problem.

Or they’ll just make some cap saving moves to field a full roster. Like every team has always done forever.

Johns isn't a top 4 RHD. How does this team improve on this year's team?

No chance the Leafs trade Dermott as he is plus 16 and really stepping up to being a tremendous shut down defenceman with Rielly, Muzzen and Ceci injured.

I think your a little high on money to Mikheyev.

He is likely gonna end up with 1 or 2 year deal only, considering games played... same as Engvall for 1 year which is 1.25 million and 2.5 million AAV for 2 years is my projection

Had a tough time with Soup. He was tracking towards a $3 million a year deal. The injury derailed that..... kinda look at him in no man's land, where he could ask Kappy - AJ money, yet the injury could see the one year show me deal. Tough one to gauge.

Thinking about it this more, I feel Stars need to add to this trade.
Do you think Johns is capable of playing 1st pair minutes?

He is has been playing 18 minutes when healthy, so worst case is the RD is a bit of a comittee. Buth Holl and Dermott have shown they can handle those minutes too. But I think he can handle 20. This mive is about finding a consistent partner for Reilly so he can be free to join the rush and do what he does best. Johns is really an underrated defensive D.....

Given the cap room situatuon, landing a RD that could play 22-24 minutes simply isn't in the cards unless the 3rd line is utterly destroyed - becomes a energy line more than offensive threat, which I think sets the team back.

As for the Stars adding more.... I would say delete the 4th. But I know Dallas holds Johns in some reguard. Won't be the easy to get him.
