Seems to be a theme over all teams in the league. Those big contracts tend to become lethal as the players get older.

Then again, you just won't be getting star assets without paying what is due in today's NHL.

Difference is that Hall is only 28. The contract runs until he's 36, so it's unlikely there's going to be a major decline in his level during that contract...

Im glad Ottawa didn't sign Duchene, Karlsson, Pageau and Dzingel to longterm deals. Stone is the only one I regret

Stepan isn’t a 2C anymore tho... so you’re point is invalid....

he's a low end 2C (but yes ideally a 3C, but that's at least an arguable point

Ironic that Melnyk's cheapness became your blessing in a sense lol

He’s on pace for 35 pts and a negative xGRel.
We’re literally better off just sticking Johansson at 2C next year

I am getting more impressed lately by how the Goat is playing as his skating keeps improving and he seems to be using his body more and maybe he has been learning something like Kapanan from Clifford. Gauthier is going to be a very valuable player for the Leafs as they transform into an elite powerhouse team in the NHL under Sheldon Keefe in a shut down and PK role.

not to mention he can f***ing SNIPE
