Not concerned with the trade, do you have any input on Robertson, as per the title? If not kindly move along smile

He is just too young. He will not even turn 19 until September. As a smaller player at a young age, it would be much better for his development to play huge minutes outside of the NHL over getting 8 to 10 minutes a night in the NHL in a lesser role. The Leafs have plenty of wingers. No need to rush him.

Potential Marlies stink for a year or two you think?

The issue is that because he is so young I'm fairly certain that he is actually not eligible to play for the Marlies next season as you have to be 20 by the start of the AHL season to play there. So it's either the Leafs roster or back to the OHL which I don't think would be good for his development. He doesn't need to go back to dusting 16 to 18-year-olds in the O like he is this year he needs to get some experience playing against men to develop - I agree that the Marlies would be great for him but if he's not eligible (and I think he isn't) what's the option? Maybe pull a Matthews before his draft year and go and play in Europe (Swiss or German leagues?)

No, he will not be old enough for the AHL either. More junior or head over to Europe would be my guess. Playing in an elite league oversees would be great for his development if he can get lots of ice time in all situations.

Like I said earlier, there is no need to rush him. The Leafs have lots of NHL wingers. He will not be in the NHL next year as a regular. Nor should he be.

It has something to do with the agreement the AHL has with the OHL and other major junior leagues in North America. Sandin and Liljegren were able to play in the AHL as teenagers, but Robertson is coming from the OHL so I think he can't play in the AHL its either OHL or NHL. I am not sure if I'd let him play with the big club or not. If he forces his way why not. But sending back to the minors may be a smart plan as well. Lets be honest, TO is not going to have any trouble scoring goals, they can do without Robertson so why not extend his ELC years if you can. Although if he shows well enough, that makes Johnsson and Kapanen even more expendable.

I mean, he certainly could make it, but as @Trevorchef said, does it make a lot of sense if he's playing 8-10 minutes a night?

I think I'd also be worried about the fact that he's 5'9''. He's certainly scoring at a ridiculous pace right now, but the OHL isn't the NHL...You go from playing on a dominant line against teenagers to being thrown in against a bunch of adults...there's a massive difference.

He's definitely looking like a 2nd round steal for the Leafs though!

no

Toronto doesn't need to rush him into the NHL so I believe he'll get some time in the preseason but get sent back to the OHL. He'll shape up to be a good player but Leaf fans should pump the brakes on him.

he's way too good for the OHL, but he would make the Leafs with all their forward depth. I saw someone on here suggesting that he play pro in Europe like Matthews did in his draft year. I also wonder if he could play in the USNTDP, as they play against men, but I'm not sure how his time in the CHL affects his eligibility
