Drai is 2nd best player in the world and Ducks would be idiots to do that trade, Poolparty is a gamble and this draft is deep.

By the way I am a gambling man and I take that deal if I am the Ducks, but GM's dont gamble like me

He deserves the MVP this season, but I don’t know if he’s a top 3 player. McDavid>McKinnon >Crosby > draisaitl? It’s tough to say

Draisaitl is really really good, but it’s so hard to rank players.

He will win the Hart hands down

Did nobody watch this game? His shot is dominant, his puck protection and body position is insane. He's one of the strongest players on his feet in my opinion. When do you ever see him get checked to the ice? He's definitely top 3. Right now, he's better than McDavid and is a shoe-in for the Hart.

No, because he is a firehose defensively.
Top 3 offensive player? Maybe.
Top 3 player? Not a chance. There are two ends of the ice and he should meet his goalie some time. I hear he is very nice.

Ryan Graves is the best player in the world right now. His defense is top notch. Crosby, McDaddy and Drai all suck and are not the best right.

Debating whether Draisaitl is in the top 3, or top 5, or top 10 is arguing about how many angels can dance on the head of a pin. Who really cares? He's a great player.

What ISN'T up for debate is how awful that trade is for Anaheim. We'll give you a 2020 fourth for Benning and a 2021 third for Puljujarvi, elevating to a second if he plays 70 games in 2020-2021.

That isn't what I said in the slightest. All I said was if you wanted to be the best player in the league (or some approximation of it) you can't ignore half the game.

He is minus 6, not minus 100, both Sid the Kid and Ovechkin are minus, This year he is the best player in the league, hands down, he is durable, runs his on line, oilers won with McDavid out. He has the most points in the last 2 years in the NHL. Who is the best this year in the nhl in your opinion

For Draisaitl to be considered that high up,
he’d need to have at least 1 more season like this one
Too many other great players with a longer resumè

But he is certainly headed in that direction

Save yourself the arguments with ppl and just say “top10”

Is this kid for real ? Dude are you for real ? Do you ever watch the Oilers ? Because you are talking out of your A** with all the " he doesn't play defense " nonsense.

Did... did you just try and use +/- to evaluate a player defensively?

And just because someone has a lot of points doesn't mean they are the best player. Often times that is what trophy voting comes down to (which is stupid) but it ignores their actual contribution at both ends of the ice.

Best player? I haven't much thought about it as awards and award voting are sort of jokes in the NHL but generally my hart players would be (in no particular order):
McDavid
MacKinnon
Eichel
Matthews
Panarin

I'd prolly go with Panarin gun to my head. He has been unreal this year (and not a defensive liability).

Funny you say this, because Drai has actually been one of the worst players in the entire league defensively. You are the ones talking out of your ass.

First of all, different guy.
Secondly they didn't say Val was better than Drai. They said Drai wasn't a hart contender because he is so bad defensively.
They also said Val was having a very good season (and is having a better defensive season than Drai).

You do understand that a worse player can be having a better season than a better player right? Val is having a career year at both ends. Drai has been phenomenal offensively but has legitimately been one of the worst forwards in the ENTIRE LEAGUE in his own end. That sinks he relative worth despite his elite offensive talent.

I also notice that you aren't disputing the numbers. Rather you lack an argument so you try to discredit them illegitimately. I am sorry that your player isn't as good as you think he is. There is nothing wrong with being an offence only player, but you cannot say that a player who forgets to play half the game is the best player in the league.

So you would trade:

#36 (conditional) + #98 for Benning and Puljujarvi, but trading #30 for those same players is "AWFUL" even if the Oilers kick in #82?

That's, um, an interesting take. Not logical, but interesting nontheless.

I can agree that being a 2 way player is underrated in evalutating where a player is ranking wise. With that said, Draisaitl leads the league in points by 13; he could take off 2 weeks and still be the points leader. McDavid is generally considered to be the best in the world, while he's also not a defensive stallion. All I'm saying is that Drai's offensive abilities outweigh his defensive liabilites.

As usual, you're wrong on the facts. There's no way to know what the 2021 second might be.

I'm pretty sure Anahiem won't be in the playoffs next year, it'll be a low pick. And anyhow, I doubt Holland would accept your offer as-is, it's too low on Benning for sure and probably Puljujarvi too.

But I digress, my original point still stands: your pick valuation is off.

Yes, but draisaitl's defensive shortcomings are so great that it sinks his overall value. Let me phrase it another way.

You have two players, A and B.
A is directly responsible for 10 goals for and 9 goals against.

B is directly responsible for 6 goals for and 1 against.

Both are net contributors, and going strictly by points player A is the better player, but by impact player B is 5 times as good as player A.

You don't even need to be a defensive stalwart imo. I chose panarin here as my hart candidate and he isn't particularly good defensively. The difference is that he isn't a total firehose unlike drai. There is a point where some defensive shortcomings can be ignored if the offensive upside is great enough (see McDavid, Connor) but when you are literally one of the WORST players in the entire league defensively you cannot possibly claim to be the best player in the league despite your solid offensive numbers.

Look, you're not interested in hearing anything I have to say, so why bother inviting discussion? You go on thinking whatever I say is wrong, and I'll go on trying to evaluate your opinions honestly but without commenting on them.
