If that's the case good luck to whoever blows up their long term cap. It won't be TO.

and Tavares probably took 1M less to sign at "home"
I believe on the open Market AP could get $10M; but he can play in Canada, hockey hotbed, on a cup contending team, he's got a ring may want a new challenge, way more in endorsement opportunity, etc....... its not likely, but its not crazy

if it makes it more plausable for you, then sign Mikhylev for 2yrs x 2M, and bring in B. richardson for clifford at $500k less; and then sign AP for 7 x 9.25M

Yeah I agree. That’s the unfortunate trend in the NHL. I just assume the blues sign him for a “hometown “ discount (irony)

I am not sure there are many GM's who'd be okay with giving a 30 year old an 8 year deal. We have seen way too many guys decline in their 30's to make that anything other than a terribly risky idea.

Other side of the coin is that all teams have a window and if he fits and helps them win within the first 4 years nobody will care about the remaining 3-4

If the cap jumps 4.5m some team will way overpay your 8.3 x 6 deal.

I gag at the thought of having Spezza at 3C, Glendenning and Maglin in the top 12.

Depends how wide the window is, Pietrangelo's contract will quickly become a problem if he declines earlier than some and I think that could very well be the case. A team like TO has a big window that is just opening and giving Pietrangelo's a mega huge deal would limit that in a big way.

Oh I completely agree. I was thinking more of a win now team now TML. I personally think they’ll be okay without him
