jordan might be on a hefty contract, but he means more to that team than almost any tradable piece you have. The price would start a Rust. PIT hangs up. No trade happens.

Staal is not worth $6M cap hit now. He certainly is not going to be worth it over each the next 3 years. He is basically a cap dump now, and will be more and more so moving forward. If Carolina does move him, they will not get much in return, they will be retaining, and they may have to add sweeteners... or a similar term bad contract back. They will not be getting a "Rust" type, much less start at a "Rust" type (implying Rust +).

I know they wont. But in reality that is how much they value him. They don't use a third liner on the top line for half the year like they were. He means too much for them to even begin moving.

However much they 'value' him, the expansion draft (and his NMC) are the reason(s) they try to move him asap

That's a lot of weed you're smoking. You should stop before it does any more damage.

Staal is still an elite defense center. Will cost a lot more than that.

I'd add a mid round pick, but with the NMC and his cap vs. production he's just not worth that much. Personally don't think Bjugstad would be a massive downgrade for CAR when you consider the cap/expansion flexibility

You don't get what I am saying. Carolina values Staal more than any other team would. The price they are asking is too high for any team to realistically pay. Therefore, no staal trade happens.

yeah I don't think that's true and if they don't make the playoffs this year, they could move him for far less in an effort to figure out what went wrong and to get younger at the position. He's gonna be 32, put up a whopping 24 points and has 3 more years left at a really high cap hit. It's not like there are excuses either. It's not like there is no help on the team.
You are the only one over valuing him that much. Believe me they aren't. That's a contract you dump if you can because you don't want to be paying 30 point players 6 million a year.

What this guy said ^ . Same reason Dallas is so strong on Faksa despite his underwhelming point totals. Staal is perhaps the league's best defensive minded forward. Sure, his worth compared to the contract is dropping, but I dont believe the hurricanes are looking to move him - and certainly not without some cost.

Talking points doesn't equal reality.
He's practically a 50/50 Ozone to Dzone guy, and is a +/- of 0 at 5v5 play.
With a whopping 20 points in 5v5 play in 65 games or whatever. For a defensive center he gets 2.3 minutes of short handed ice time. That's not a lot of penalty killing.
To put it in terms you can understand. The team has 537 PM and he's only been out there for 151 of them or 28%.

It's not even worth the time debating this with you. You have over valued him not only in a trade but his value to the team.
He is not this elite player you think he is. What is true is he's slowly getting pushed down the roster.
His career path at this point is looking more and more similar to Brandon Dubinsky.
