Description
Signings-

I see Gravel returning bc he is now finally healthy (poor guy suffers from IBS) Spezza is happy here and as expressed interest in management/coaching. I see Dubas wanting to keep him in a minimal leadership role, still has elite passing ability.
Gaudet has a great AHL history and is a smart keep,

The 3 internal draft pick rookies that are signed I expect Dubas will bring in to either fill the Growlers or depth AHL. Again he has a history of internal promotions and has expanded Torontos development program to the ECHL.

Trades-

Dubas has a history of accommodating players and their requests- Petan is unhappy and wants opportunity, I bet he will be dealt for whatever we can get back.

Okay so I know everyone will hate this but I think it is fair. It’s a hockey trade. Firstly, the Devils are under new management. They have a bounty of solid prospects and particularly they have some solid defensive players. Severson is a excellent RHD and could be a great fit in Toronto’s system. NJ however gets in return Kapanen who will boost the offence and have greater opportunities there. His value will obviously be debated bc its Toronto but he is no doubt a Top 6 forward, penalty killer and PP2 value. He is also under contract at a great price.

Okhotyuk is a great prospect (10th according to Athletics prospect ranking) he had a rough year and struggled to adjust to North American rinks. Toronto could be a great fit to develop him, he blocks shots and plays a strong game.
Bracco is a solid prospect but he is at a critical point in his career. He obviously has elite passing ability but some scouts doubt his other skills. He is on personal leave currently and its doubtful he will return this season. Toronto might try to accommodate him like they have with other players who need a fresh start, he has dominated in the AHL.

Kap for Sev
Brac for Okh

annnnd now prove me wrong.

They’ll probably trade Dermott if it comes down to him or Liljegren getting playing time.

With the way Kappy has been playing recently, it would be very hard for me personally to see him traded.

He has been playing with gusto (something the Leafs lack). He has been flying up and down the rink, standing up for his teammates, getting into the gritty areas of the ice to try and help the team succeed. I feel like those tangibles are impossible for the Leafs to trade away because they lack those kinds of players (Hyman, Kappy, and maybe Clifford all seem to me to have these intangibles).

If the Leafs want a chance to compete against the likes of Boston (players with tangibles: Marchand (inate ability to get under opponents skins), Pasta (hits, isn't afraid of the corners or needing to take a hit for a play), Debrusk (Marchand-lite), Coyle (two-way guy, likes to hit, isn't afraid to take hits), McAvoy (can also get under players skins) and Tampa (who just acquired gritty/irritating guys in Coleman and Goodrow, Maroon during the offseason).

Potentially adding a depth defender like Bortuzzo or Borowiecki (long shot as Dorion wants him in Ottawa long term, and he just had a kid) could bring some of those veteran work-ethic intangibles.

I would happily do the NJD trade with Mango and pick instead of Kappy. Kappy really seems like he wants to be a Leaf long-term with his recent play

I doubt Mango is traded as he has basically missed an entire year

4 months. He is on track to be back for training camp. Could be an early season move potentially.

Perhaps, but Dubas won’t sell low on him and I doubt his value is high currently or even in the summer. Injuries take a toll on a players value typically.
