I'm in no way saying he should, I was just curious if it was possible. It is.

I, as I'm sure many others are, looked at it too. I think you reached similar conclusion that I did in that Murray and Johnson would probably have to go. For Hall, I think he could get pretty close to a max deal. So I don't think he signs a 7 year deal at 9 million. I think the smart and reasonable play to Hall would be "Come play for the pens for 2 years @ roughly 9 mil per. Not quite max money, but still solid." Gives Hall and the pens a chance at the cup and then after 2 years, he's still young enough to sign a long term deal for big bucks elsewhere. And after 2 years, Sid, Geno, and Tanger will be much closer to the back side of their careers.

Dumped 3.2 by trading a starting goaltender they could afford to trade.

Do you think it's a bad trade for Ottawa?

If Ottawa's goal is to get a #1 goalie, they can do a lot better. They arent taking on that big of a cap dump for a 5th. They could take on MAF from Vegas, for a similar cost, and at least he could mentor their kids while being decent

Ottawa doesn't need a guy at the end of their prime. MAF makes no sense. Change the return to a 3rd. I think it makes total sense.

Johnsson is over paid by about 1.5-2 million. I think that's worth a 25 year old cup winning starting goalie and a 2ns or 3rd

Taylor Hall would have to accept less than Crosby because there is no way to justify that he should be paid more and I don't care about when Sid agreed to his contract because isn't close to the player Sid or Geno are. Sign Hall for 3 years at 6 is my call. Guenztel is better than Hall.

This is always a ridiculous argument. Crosby also signed for about 10 mil. He just has 3 BS years tacked on the end not allowed under the current that falsely brings the average dowb

Correct. There are so many other young players I'd go with over Hall unless we got Hall for a very good team friendly deal. Do you think Hall wants to continue to loose and not make the playoffs? He wants and should work to go to a pure guaranteed contender.

Is Hall worth 9m long term.....Let's imagine Hall cost 9m then you have to have a 1m player....2 players for 10m. Lotta teams would prefer having two 5m players.

Honestly I wouldn't pay a UFA winger that. But someone will

Hall shouldn't but I'm not sure he worth top dollars. Right now it's looking more and more like the MVP season was the outlier season in his career so far.

That one season alone should not award a top dollars contract imo.

He's a very good player. But it's really rare to lead from the wing...

I still remember people arguing Benn was better than Stamkos when they signed similar contracts. Thought they were nuts then and now

But does that warrant top player type dollars? Not in my eyes. I agree he's a very good player...but to earn the 11+ million people on here have been saying for months he will/should command...gotta be better than very good.

Murray is not good and not a starter, even in OTT. MAF buys them time to develop a franchise goalie. Or they can take Bob from Florida and get paid for it

.899 save% .914 career on a team that should be doing better than they have, if they had consistent goaltending. Theirs a reason why Pitt ACGM moves him

Yes he's having a bad year. But his career .914 is compared to MAF with a 0.916 over the same time period. Ones entering their prime the other in their late 30s.

One stole the starting job from the other two cup runs in a row.

Yeah I know which one I trust more to be a starter the next 5 years.

Yeah i think your completely missing the point. If Ottawa wants to trade for a #1 goalie, they can do much better than Murray. Trading for MAF would bring them back better assets and MAF would be there to lead then be replaced not to be relied on to be there franchise. Plus what has Murray done after Fleury left. Barely hang on to his staring job and get carried across the finish line by Crosby and Malkin before choking in the playoffs
