I think Makar will earn something close to EK65/Doughty money if it isn't a bridge deal.

You can pretty much guarantee landy will not be let walk, ideally he gets what kreider got but odds are he will make more money. Depending who's all available at free agency we might dip in there as well. I wouldn't mind a little bit more size on line 4 just in-case but other than that we're looking good. With what they say about the cap raising there is gonna be lots of money as well over the next couple seasons, plus one of cole or zads will be leaving the roster to make room for byram or timmins.

I don't think that's in the cards. There's no way he asks for practically double what mack is making on his first deal. I wouldn't be surprised if it's more along the lines of what thomas chabot is making, but in between 8-9

The thing is Makar is already better than Chabot and the fact that Salary Cap could be higher than when Chabot signs it. One thing for sure is he'll get more than Rantanen so its already out of the 8-9M range.
Also, it's not possible to compare Makar's next contract to MacKinnon's because Mac's is due in 3 years and like I said before the Salary Cap will be even higher than that.

IMO I think everyone takes a discount. NM said he is willing to take a discount so that this team can win down the road. I imagine he’s going to take a Crosby contract and I rest will follow his lead. Makar might sign a Carlson deal GL might take a 6-6.5 deal. That’s my opinion on it

I mean you have roughly 33 mil to resign Grubi Landy, Makar, 2 d men and 4 bottom 6ers... Fill the bottom pair with Byram and Timmins (31 mil) 3C with Kaut/Bowers, Newhook likely makes the team in two years, say Calvert resigns for 3 that leaves you with 26 mil (assuming only two of Kaut/Bowers/Newhook are ready) to find a 4C (say 2 mil... That's probably unrealistically high) that's 24 mil for Grubi Landy and Makar BEFORE cap increase (with SEA coming let's just say 90, an extra 4 mil) you can give Grubi 8, and Makar 12 and still have 8 mil for Landy and to fill out the roster...

Wingers don't generally age well. Physical wingers even worse. I doubt you guys do let him go. He's a good to very good player, who's your captain; heart and soul type and in his prime.

But he's gonna want like 7.5*8 (he has been way more productive than Kreider, and I'd give good odds he's the next Lucic/Ladd/Erricson

Mack didn't break out until after signing his contract. It can't be used as a comparable.

One could hope but I wouldn't plan on that.

Also Crosby's deal is barely a discount if you average the first 8 years (he had cheating bs years tacked on at the end that are no longer legit).

Oh yeah it's gorgeous.

Johnsson and Cole leave. A couple of the middle six wingers leave or are traded.

Tonnes of room.

I just think Landy will be the next Dustin Brown.

If we aren't using mack as a comparable then you compare him to the defensemen who have been the top scoring D over the past 3 years, carlson, burns, hedman, josi, all these guys have scored more than makar has this season and are all making around the same contract 8x8.5. Doughty and Karlsson both have huge resumes and are able to demand max contracts because of what they've done in the past. I'm not saying makar won't be able to be the next karlsson but 0 percent chance he can demand that much with 2 seasons under his belt and not leading the league in scoring for both.

Oh I wasn't trying to say what he'll get.

I think his best comparable thus far is Chabot and Doughty's second contract (by cap percentage). Then we'll see what Dahlin gets next year. Those will be the best comparisons.

That’s not realistic. EK65 and Doughty had both won Norris Trophy’s and had multiple years of success. IMO Makar’s extension is in the $9M range.

For next season Kamenev has played his way OUT, and either Graves or Z is going to get traded to create space for Byram who isn’t going back to juniors next year. Also Jost is more likely to get something under $2M. As for Nichushkin’s deal I think both parties will want a shorter prove it deal.

So I think his best comparables for now are Doughty's, Pietrangelo's and Chabot's second contracts.
Doughty was 7 mil for 8 years or 10.89% of the cap
Pietrangelo's was 6.5 for 7 years or 10.11% of the cap
Chabot's is 8 mil for 8 years. 9.82% of this year's cap (will be lower when next year's cap is known).

For arguments same well say 2021-2022 cap is 90 mil.

That will put him in the 9s for 7-8 years
