If and only if the cap is 88 million which it likely wont be

Created by: deleted_x_t_213213
Team: 2020-21 Toronto Maple Leafs
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 5, 2020
Published: Mar. 5, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Edmonton needs scoring on the wing, the Leafs get a mid to late first round pick and a top RHD. Maybe the Leafs can get Pietrangelo for 9 or 8.5 so they're under the cap.

Maybe, for a desperate team, a late first (26-31)

How do you figure Kapanen isn't worth a 1st? He was a 1st round pick in his draft year, scored 20 goals as a 22 year old NHL regular, and is still improving. Not to mention he's one of the fastest skaters in the game and kills penalties... do you even hockey

Chaisson got 20 goals last year and i dont think we could get rid of him for a 5th, Kapanen for a 1st is steep, does he have 15 goals this year.....Yikes. Blue jackets are going to have a hard time getting a first for Anderson now as well

Wow HAHAHA. Of course I love hockey. Do you even pay attention to any other player besides the leafs. It doesn’t matter if you are 22 or not. There are different players I would rather spend that first on (even if I had to give more than that first round pick) to get instead of overpaying on Kapanen. By the way it doesn’t matter if you were picked in the first round either.

Exactly. Like example Poolparty was picked in the first and he is not worth a first, even though he leads the finish league.

Chaisson scored 22 goals as a 28 year old, whereas his career high before that was 13. I don't think you can compare the two

It does matter if you're 22. He'll still be improving for the next 3-4 years and is under team control. It's also odd you think a former 1st round pick who is living up to the potential of a 1st round pick, can't fetch a 1st round pick - especially considering teams who give up 1st rounders are teams wanting to win immediately. So what would a team rather have: a future 1st round pick who can't help you for the next 2,3,4 years - or is even a guarantee to make the NHL - or a former 1st round pick who is almost in their prime, has the potential to score 20+ goals, kills penalties, has game-changing speed, and is on a favorable contract?

He is a 3rd line player. 15 goals and 3.2 million. that is not favorable, it is where he should be or a little high. You talk about good PP guys, how about Khaira for the Oilers. PP demon. if I was Kapanen I would ask for a trade to get off of the 3rd line of Toronto. He is going to be there forever. Sucks to be him. By the way I am a huge Kapanen fan and would love him on the oilers.

Kapanen is not worth a first and that’s all! There is other guys that can kill penalties, and is really fast, and scores goals. And I would rather not trade a first round pick to get Kapanen, and if I want to trade it I will for a better player.

I'm not trying to change your guys' personal opinion. My argument is teams would absolutely give up a 1st to acquire him. If Barclay Goodrow gets SJ a 1st when he's 27 and his career high is 24 points then how the hell does Kapanen not?
