Trouba Thoughts

Created by: NYR_Mike
Team: 2019-20 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 6, 2020

Description
Really just looking for a general opinion on Jacob Trouba, should we move him before his NTC kicks in or keep him?

Curious to know what fans think of him and other fans across the league think. Given that the rangers have Fox, Tony D, Trouba, and Nils Lundkvist having a tremendous year in Sweden. I would think we would have to create space for the rangers top prospect (IMO) in Nils Lundkvist.

With that being said, I do not know if it is the right move to have 3 D-man under 6 foot playing the blue line, it seems like the NHL is going in that direction when it comes to defense man (IMO). Trouba brings that physical presence that I love.

If we traded him, what would the return be? Really curious to hear what everyone has to say!

Not a Rangers fan but just in general, you don't sign a guy for 8x8 and then trade him one year in. He's not going anywhere. But I have no idea what the theoretical return would be, so I can't help with that part, sorry.

They would be in serious trouble without him. He hasn't been great but for the first couple of months he was stuck with terrible partners. The rangers in general are a horrible defensive team but that wont get any better if they have DeAngelo and Fox going up against top competition. It's never a good idea to sell low on a guy either

I think that he has struggled more than anticipated this year. I think there can possibly be a nagging LBI but I'm not certain about that. In general once we get k'andre or deangelo gets better in the offseason defensively on the left side, I think he will be consistently better.

That contract is a killer, No way is Trouba worth $8 million per for another 6 years or so. Trouba at the most is a $6.5 to $7 million Dman pretty much like Krug. Good luck getting any value for him.

deangelo wont get better defensively. he is an offensive defenseman always has been. He has the ability to be elite in that aspect. but defensively hes never going to get to the point of being defensively responsible, he will always be a liability in his own end.

To the original poster, trouba isnt going anywhere. you dont trade free agents you signed long term not even a year after you sign them. Thats a terrrrible look for a team if they do that.

I disagree that he is not going to improve defensively. For the most part his mistakes are mentally, which can be tough and coached on inorder to improve. Granted he will always be a Offensive might but he will have to get better defensively.

you may be one of the most insufferable people on this site. months ago all you were doing was creaming yourself every time someone suggested a trade for Trouba because he wasn't going anywhere but Detroit. "the golden boy is coming home".

And you know that if he went to DRW, they would have signed him to the same exact contract. value is subjective - figure it out.

When the trade first happened, I thought that the Jets sold low on Trouba. Pionk has been better than expected (top 15 in D scoring and a +11) and Heinola looks like he will be a Top 4 D in his trajectory. On paper, it looks good for the Jets. But points and prospects don't say everything. As previous posts have indicated, the Jets have lacked the intimidation factor that Trouba, Buff and Chiarot provided. Trouba is a tough guy to play against and the Rangers, like the Jets would miss his truculence.

Yeah right he took the $8 million because New York City has among the highest taxes in the entire world. Trouba could've taken far less in Detroit and still take home more because of the lower taxes in Michigan compared to Liberal New York. And i've never said that it was 100%guaranteed that Trouba was coming home to Detroit. Just the it was a remote possibility. I also linked the Rangers into the conversation funny how Florida fans swore that he was coming to Sunrise with his fiance here in Florida and the cheaper taxes.

I agree with the comments above u can’t trade him now. Maybe in a few years but not know and u can’t toss prospects into such a heavy role. It helps with development to add a good veteran for the d corps and he does add grit which is needed on a team to win. U can’t have all non physical players on ur team

There were only 4 or 5 states trouba was going: NY, MA, CA, VA, MN. The three things those 5 have in common was top hospitals for his fiance/wife to work in. Minnesota wasnt a fit because they are already log jammed on defense. Same with Boston. Capitals are strapped for cap already doubt they coulda fit trouba in. that leaves NY and CA as the only viable spots. He made it abundantly clear last offseason he was going somewhere she wanted to be as well for her career.

Exactly this guy nailed it on the head yes he hasn’t been “amazing this season” one bc trouba a combination of an OFD and a DFD. He needs an actual top pairing guy to go with him and skjei wasn’t doing that plus it’s him first year here. The physical aspect he brings is huge and maybe if we didn’t have terrible lindy we would be able to improve his skills

A. he has been way worse than "not amazing"... he hasn't been good, and you can't pay a guy 8 mil if he needs to play with a top pair guy to be good... most top pair guys are gonna want 8ish, and you probably can't afford to risk 16 mil on two d men that if they don't work well together one of them plays terrible...
