The Habs don't want Gourde.

Please stop spamming him to MTL. And don't say "oh, but he's from Quebec, so they must want him". No, that doesn't change the fact that he's a small forward (which we have plenty) and he's on a terrible contract (which we have plenty).

Sincerely,
A Habs fan

OBVIOUSLY Johnson and Gourde are the big issues on team contract wise .. I like Paquette as 4C and PK and 1.5M should be digestable.. issue next year is more replacing Shatterkirk who has been a GODSEND this year .. in both durability and performance.

As side note .. Goodrow's stat line last night.. 16 mins .. over 2mins PK .. 4 shots on goal .. 6 hits .. 8/11 face offs and 65% offensive zone time .. wow .. THAT is what we traded from.. Coleman is starting to gel with Cirelli and Killorn on 2nd line .. that could be our make or break line in playoffs

Even then, taking his cap hit for the next 5 years for, say, a bottom 5 1st round isn't worth it.
The only thing he'll bring is blocking cap space and stalling a possible playoff attempt for the next 5 years. That locked up cap space will also block us from resigning key players and making trades in the future. As for the (maybe) bottom 5 1st to take the dump, I just don't trust current management w/ later picks. Their scouting isn't good.

It's just not worth it honestly. This "reset" is just never going to end if we keep doing bad moves like that and we'll end up in a worse situation that what the Sabres are currently in.

And Tampa fans Didn’t trust me when I said Goodrow was a lot better than just a typical fourth liner

All RFA's and UFA's here are grossly underpaid. I have to imagine if that's what Tampa offers guys like Cernak and Sergachev will at least have their agents explore offer sheets. If they signed such low contracts it'd be one year deals, not three. Rutta has been playing lots of first pair minutes I can't see him taking that deal either. Like I get Tampa is a nice place and guys might take a little less, but that's a lot less.

I have to imagine they will look at moving Sergachev (or let him take an offer sheet) since they have Hedman and McDonaugh locked down for half a decade on the left side. Obviously they will want to move at least one of Gourde or Johnson but that's going to prove tough. It's still a great roster but it's going to take some work to make things look great next year.

Nah Serg is getting somewhere in the 4.5-5 range and it's far from grossly underpaid. Most of his recent comparables have been in the high 4's on bridge deals and with Tampa's organizational structure and philosophy, 4.5 for Serg and 4ish for Cirelli is pretty accurate for their next deals. Unless one of Gourde/Johnson/Palat waive then unf Killorn gets moved, it's pretty straightforward. Depending on where the cap actually ends up, Paquette and Coburn will also be moved to save cap and that will be enough to sign the rfa's. Coleman and Goodrow fill in the gaps for Killorn and Paquette. Shattenkirk has been no godsend and hasn't exactly been great defensively. He was never going to be more than a 1 year fill in anyway. I expect the d next year to be Hedman-Rutta, McD-Cernak and Serg-Foote with Bogosian/Schenn/Gaunce as depth. Tampa may go after another 1 year fill on a lesser hit but I don't see the need as much next year as long as Rutta re-signs and Foote is ready.

even Coburn has a NTC. I think JBB uses a template for contracts and that is part of it.
