Hard no on any trade involving Byram. All the RFA contracts are low as is the Toffoli deal. The only way either Byram or Newhook get dealt is if an elite young talent with term is coming back.

Ekblad is young w/term and having the best season of his young career. Not sure if the Cats would do this but certainly would give it some thought

I dont think so, if the avs are trading those pieces away it would be for a huberdeau type player coming back

for all we know Byram will be Ekblad in another couple years. You always want a player like Ekblad no doubt but i think we have to see what Byram is going to be first. Sakic hasn't rushed anything yet and i doubt he will start now

And in doing so sakic would probably win GM of the last 3 years if that was an actual award

Possibly, all depends on the supply and demand. He’s an elite winger with great vision. Some value top line wingers higher than a top pair RHD

I disagree, top RHD almost never get traded unless it's a strange circumstance (Karlsson) or they are leaving in UFA at the end of the season

That can be said for elite centers as well.

Ekbald isn’t elite. That just puts the Avs into Cap hell all that much sooner with the distinct possibility that you are trading away the best player in the deal. Why trade Byram?

Also it’s highly unlikely the Avs even have the opportunity to draft a player like Byram in the next decade. I don’t get the fascination with ditching the #4 overall pick for already expensive pieces that aren’t elite but have a big name.
