If you switch up lines to something like this sure:
Lafreniere-Brown-Batherson
Tkachuk-Norris-White
Duclair-Tierney-C. Brown
Paul-Anisimov-Balcers

They can probably "compete" per se, but it'll be for a wild card...

IMO, Boston/Tampa, plus Toronto probably continue to hold down the top 3 spots in the division, so you'd essentially be competing for a wild card spot with a whole bunch of teams (Carolina, Florida, Columbus, one or both of the NY's...etc).

It will also depend on what MTL and Buffalo do in the offseason...the Sens are going to have a pretty solid foundation set though!7

Edit: As @csick's thread from earlier had, I wonder how you make moves to acquire an impact player for the front end.

I didn’t know if he would throw brown into the Wild;1C.
Putting Alexis down on line 3 to first let him transition and also if he picks up the NHL fast he can make a mess on mismatches (brown batherson and Alexis? That’s a talented 3rd line that can feast) allowing all 3 to get accustomed together in less pressure minutes to start the year. And yeah if I scratched Formenton my lines would look a little different. But agreed that batherson brown and Alexis will be a deadly line if works out well; deserving of top line.

We have so many prospects, id love to package them for someone like Cirelli, Ehlers etc. Theres just no room for everyone, something like Silfverberg + Noesen + 1st for Ryan that we did back in the day but Colin White + Rudolf Balcers + Isles 1st. But preferably someone like Ryan when we acquired him but younger and with way more term

Pretty much every organization would love to have Ottawa's picks but it's never a guarantee those top picks have instant success in the NHL. Have you seen the production from the top 2 picks from last year's draft? All I'm saying is don't count your chickens... or choke them

Agreed 100%. I never take these kids for granted (as why I put Alexis 3 Wing).
But I put Alexis ahead of both the last kids. Hopefully it works out for him. But I agree with not rushing kids, I’d rather a year of pro hockey before NHL but that does happen anymore. Like Caufield being likely kept down; people freak out when Marc berg said that but it’s true. I would love to mock Montreal but that’s a smart decision that people wrongfully got skepticism

I'd be interested to see who might be available this summer.

As a Ducks fan, what kind of package would you be willing to give up for Rakell?

they were going to be more fun to watch and not that slog from the year before, but they still have major issues in net. Second worst goal differential in the league. THey really need to clean up that back end

They’ve been fun to watch this year a lot of fans have missed out this year, that’s a problem with the stigma around them, and next year should only be better.

As for the net hogberg has been real good. He could become a starter (atleast, the very least, a good backup). I’ve seen him in person a few times and he’s not just a flash in the pan (I think). I wasn’t going to sign a big big name FA as that’s to unrealistic but we’ll see what they do

A lot of young players which will need to play consistent enough to make the playoffs. A lot of talent but looks a lot like Toronto of 3 years ago. Borowiecki should be kept around, great bottom pair guy, provides grit, and leadership for this young team.

I don't think they will be chasing the playoffs next year, but definitely have the pieces to be the team to watch in the next 2-3 seasons.

we have prospects coming on the back end. Brannstrom, Wolanin, Thomson and JBD are all coming soon. Only branny from them played for Ottawa this year and it was like 20 games

their biggest signings this year are going to be the raises to Connor Brown and Duclair

Won’t they not hit the cap floor then? (As to why I acquired Eriksson but still grabbed Joel edmundson to be safe).

dont disagree, there is an influx of talent to come to help with that. Until its established, IMO that will be the thing that could hold them back from taking the leap in the standings.

dont think they need a big name starter or Dman, but a vet who can help give them stability wouldnt be a bad thing. someone like Halak or Anton Khudobin on a 2 year deal to be that 1B type guy
