Agreed
To me a teams owner shouldnt withhold and gamble with players money just because they want to spend all their cap on 1-2 contract .

I mean for your NHL entry level or league minimum salaries they're only losing up to 150k which is a lot but its before taxes so not a crushing blow.
With NHL players like Toews he's losing just over 1.5m a year to Escrow which is why he's been Vocal in his displeasure of Escrow.

And the variety of it can change. It should be like a flat percentage. Like all teams take ; 11% let’s just say (random number) that way it’s fair and your still getting a alot total back from the contracts where as the leafs escrow is probably like 10$Mil from their main 4-5 guys let alone the rest of the team brings that way higher.

to me its best to change the 50/50 split to 47.5/47.5 with a 5% base taken out and held for 5 years before being returned to both sides .
that 5% when not used for 5 years consecutively should then revert back to the 50/50 format with no Escrow
The Interest gained from the 5% sitting in for any number of those 5 years would then be taken into a seperate account
That account containing the Interest would collect its own interest over time creating a secure fund indeffinately .

it would be like a 20 year process but it eliminates the problem with a plan to get back to 50/50 without Escrow .
