Option 1

Team: 2020-21 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 6, 2020
Published: Mar. 6, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Bergevin decides to keep on going with the retool. he decides to trade on of Drouin, Tatar and Domi to get a top 12 pick in 2020

No which one to trade?

Tatar? Nah, I don't think Bergevin does that. I don't think he wants to break up the Tatar-Danault-Gallagher line, and IMO rightly so.

Drouin? Great forward, 25 goals potential any given season, potentiel 65-70 pts if he plays with great players. The key word here is «if», 'cause he can't really drive his own line by himself. That being said, he's been injured most of 19-20's season, so odds are his value has taken a serious drop.

Domi? Nah, I don't think he should be moved, he's an energy forward, he should be kept around.

On Derek Forbort: him signing a 1 year, 1,75 mil AAV is just a way to buy time for Romanov. Let him adapt to the north american ice playing for the Laval Rocket in October, november and december. After that, move Forbort for a pick or 2.

id rahter keep drouin then go for a mid-to late 1st rd pick that i have to wait for another 2-3 years. bergy gave molson a 5 year plan in 2016. this will stray away from that path. the worse decision u can make right now is to stray away from the plan. if u dont believe me that they don't have a plan. take a look at the pipeline and trades they've made (suzuki is a good example).

I get what you're saying, I really do, and I like Drouin. I definitely think he'd be a nice fit in MTL moving forward. But the fact is that being able to draft Mercer who's awesome and getting a mid 6 forward who you can always flip at the TDL for a 2nd rounder and a conditional 3rd is great.

The bigger picture here is that MTL must get even more prospects. Moving Drouin is a way to get a prospect plus a roster player who can get you a pick or 2 (more prospects)...

again, its straying away from the plan. there is no NEED to trade Drouin. but i get your pov. its a fair point.

Its a good start but Drouins worth more to us given his start this season being the first time he lead our team and showed he's the player we wanted him to be its not worth moving him especially given his and Domi's chemistry .Like Gallagher he came back to soon after injury and got re-injured costing him the year but like Gallagher i think he comes back stronger and more hungry then ever .

not saying the package is far off but MTL requires and overpay or no deal for our young speedy 50 point regular entering his prime years
Ryan Suzuki is the piece we'd require for Fans not to shoot us after trading away Sergachev then Drouin for a older , lesser player and a gamble that TML doesnt go on a run and make this 1st a late round pick.
Without a sure thing in a youth forward piece this deal is basically MTL giving up on Drouin which were not ready to do (plus its an admission more or less that MB gave away a top 10 pick to get a french forward they said would be here for years )

Why are you guys OK with keeping Drouin but Domi HAS to go? I am the polar opposite and the only reason to trading Domi that actually has merit to it, that I agree with also btw, is that he'd return a better player/package than Drouin if he were traded. That is it. Drouin is still the same player he was last year. 19 games did not change that for me this year and it shouldn't for you either. Maybe if he sustained it all year I'd change my mind but he didn't and had he been healthy all year, Domi would have had 70 points again himself as a result. Book it. So whats the problem?

Domi is a better player than Drouin in every single category and the fact that people bring up that he'll cost the Habs 1-1.5M in his next contract more than Drouin is laughable. He's more than 1-1.5M better than Drouin IMHO. Plus guess what? The Habs have the cap space for him!

It feels like:

Domi: 50 points after a 70 point season last year = P.O.S player that we need to trade ASAP.
Drouin: 15 points in 19 games after a disappointing 53 point season last year = Drouins been fixed, he's a great player now! Got keep him. Makes so much sense.........Much wow, very amaze!!! rolling eyes

I don't know if you have noticed but the french media is convincing fans that Domi needs to go and Drouin is just fine. I'm so against this. It literally the reason why this team never gets better......always looking to put language ahead of actual results.

Domi @ 7M is still better than Drouin @ 5.5M. I'll gladly die on this hill.
