What's wrong with getting Murphy and DeMelo instead?
You think this doesn't improve the Leafs defensively??

A lot better than anything the Wild could offer, lol. I guess it depends on whether or not Botterill thinks Cozens is a center or a winger. Same could be said for Reinhart but it seems like he's found his place as a winger in the NHL. If Botterill thinks he has a 1C internally, this would be a pretty hard offer to turn down IMO. I'm not really sure why Toronto would need Eichel though.

Well, lets put it like this....on the scale from 1 to 10, Murphy - DeMelo are improving the D at 5 while Ellis - Pesce addition would be 9. Tho i dont think Eichel is worth that much plus you need feeders like Marner is, many peoples stats would be much lower without him in Line......dont make kid the scapegoat for what started with 8 x 13M on top of 63 + 69 Seasons

The Eichel train eh...
As @Tansor mentioned, it's a serious offer. Buffalo should take that, it's a way more reasonable offer than some I've seen here.

Count me in!!! Chugachugachoochoo!!

I think your underating Murphy and DeMelo and overating Ellis and Pesce but that does not mean I disagree that Ellis and Peace are not better.

Any thoughts how you were planning on splitting Marner into 2 players to get Ellis and Peace?

The point of the trade is also to shift some FW spending to D.
Thinking of like Marner salary combined Dermott traded for Eichel's.

You can always play with lines, this was me doing this quickly.

Anyways, I was just exploring this.

Ofc you were exploring, we are all playing the game here.

To make it blunt without pulling on detailes of trade weight.......Marner for Ellis and the rest of the group for Pesce....TML overpaying in both cases

This is a good exercise in saving some money on forwards and investing in D. Now granted, @Laudan makes a good point about Ellis and Pesce but one or both of those guys may not be available. Which makes the DeMelo and Murphy moves sensible.

And how you replace what Marner does?
He is important core piece afterall.

And Ellis and Pesce salary combined is over 11 million.

I get what your saying though, I'm just trying to defend my thinking here

And thats what i was trying to point out, you dont trade him. TML has enough scorers that are chilling on the top of faceoff circle and waiting to get fed. For them you need playmakers like Marner is, so i think Eichel in and Marner out isnt improving the Team. If anyone of "Core 4" should be traded at all it should be for No1 D man.

There's a problem with what you're suggesting. Getting Ellis and Pesce will most definitely put the Leafs over the cap even if you trade Marner because Ellis and Pesce's contracts surpass Marner's in the cap world. And I haven't even talked about the trades themselves.

You can maybe get one of those guys, but both? Sounds more like a pipe dream.

I was pointing out that Forward for Forward trade doesnt make sense, so i brought up the names that would actually make a difference quality wise if Marner would be traded ( which he wont ) on top of those other assets Trickster gave up in this trade.

Cap wise, Ellis and Pesce for the upper package i think they fit, 6,25M + 4M < 10,89M ( 3,4M + 900k aka 2,5M next year )

Yeah I see what you're saying. Just have a hard time believing Leafs pull off two moves for D in trades. A more likely scenario is trading for one and then settling for a DeMelo or Hamonic.

Fine with me.

Agree about the wet dream of getting both, that train has passed at TDL when Dubarelli naively wanted to land 1st and a prospect for Barrie instead package him with Kerfoot + Holl + Timashov and 2nd to bring in some D that excels in his own end.....

Second package for another D should be Hyman + Dermott + Malgin + another 2nd......
