Pretty ambivalent to this contract. He's honestly more effective than Daley and Ericsson combined and they make literally a fortune's worth compared to this. I could see him playing steady 3rd pair minutes with maybe being healthy scratched a handful of times next season. The Wings have a gaggle of young D that are gonna most likely occupy the top pairs (Hronek, Lindstrom, Seider and Cholo) along with Danny DK as well so I don't expect him to play much.

That's the primary reason why the Canucks traded him. He was always the 7th Dman with them and Benning wanted to give the guy a chance to play regular NHL minutes so traded him to Detroit for an AHLer. I would assume he resigned to continue to play NHL minutes. He's 31, but this could very well be his last NHL contract unless he just re-ups with Detroit every year moving forward.
