I mentioned pre deadline that the Wild aren’t as hopeless as everyone on this site makes them out to be. Folks were acting like this team was 30 points out. This team has some really solid players and the west is kind of crazy. They could easily win a round or 2

however, as per always they don't have the prospect depth to be a scary team. I don't see this core winning a cup. The wild always barely sneak into the playoffs, then lose in a round or two. I'd rather a full retool to get a deep and strong core than rely on four lines of middle six forwards carrying the load.

Kaprizov better be something special because this team is banking on him.

Could be a strong team in the future if they can get some draft luck and swing a 2c for Dumba

Nobody except fans online has ever said the team was selling in the first place. Moving Zucker out to make room on the wing for Kaprizov and potentially trading a top 4 d-man for a 1C and getting out of a bad contract is not selling. They didn’t make any other moves to imply they were sellers, and Guerin straight up said they weren’t and everyone ignored him.

They Wild haven't been in sell mode since the lockout. A long drawn out rebuild wasn't even on the owner/GM(s) mind.
-Nino, Granny, and Coyle were traded for younger NHL players last year (with varying success), but it was a roster cleanup more than anything.
-Zucc and Spurgeon aren't signed this offseason if the team was going into rebuild mode.
-Zucker was traded because he was expensive and expendable on the roster. Chucky was a cap dump, but I'm liking him more and more every game as a player.
-Staal was re-signed and not traded for futures last TDL.
-Any potential Brodin/Dumba trade was after a very specific thing, not just whatever.

The core of the FWDs is shifting to the younger guys (JEE, Fiala, and Kunin), basically those that weren't been polluted by Yeo's years. Even the team's on-ice demeanor has shifted away from the Koivu style/attitude of play to more of a Parise/Foligno style/attitude (even before BB was fired).

The prospect pool is as good or better than it was in the 2011/12 years; that's not even counting the 5 guys 23 or younger on the NHL roster already.

Couldn't have said it better.

That's the main reason Wild fans have said no to pretty much any trade involving spare parts for their defensemen. They're going to try to retool and compete. Whether that's best or not is irrelevant. Realistically this team as built could go as far as the WCF this year if they make the playoffs as the 1st wild card and play in the Pacific bracket given their record against those teams. They'll get smoked by whoever gets to the WCF out of the Central. Next year? Guerin needs to address the top 6 center problem and if possible, upgrade the goaltending. They won't sell this summer and will have some cap space to work with.

Well the team wasn't as bad as their record earlier in the season. The goaltending was just so awful that they lost a lot of games they shouldn't have. I do think most Wild fans are just waiting for Stalock to turn back into a pumpkin right now.

Stalock would be fine as a backup next season if a trade doesn't present itself, but Dubnyk probably needs to go. He hasn't been good for awhile now, starting last season it became much more noticeable. Kahkonen's injury might complicate things a little, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Guerin buy out Dubnyk, sign a veteran, and let Stalock, Kahkonen, and whoever else compete for the 2 spots on the roster next training camp.

They're banking just as much on Fiala being for real. The sample size is still too small to proclaim him a star, though it's definitely encouraging. Guys like Kunin and Ek have taken steps forward too.

If the Cap goes up to 86-88 I wouldn't be against signing a guy like Markstrom for 5 years

If they can get him for $5m AAV or so, I'd be ok with 4-5 years of him.

Vancouver would pay that. MIN would have to pay 5.5M at min to pry him out

Yeah I think if they want a veteran, Holtby (no thanks), Lehner (maybe), or Halak (ok if short contract) would all be options to actually hit free agency. I think Vancouver will extend Markstrom before July 1st.

If Vancouver does resign Markstrom, would you consider a Dumba for Demko + deal?

No, but that's mainly because I'd rather see what the Wild has with their goalies in the system already before they go out and trade a good asset like Dumba for one. Maybe something like Greenway for Georgiev or something. If they move a defenseman, a top 6 center has to be coming back.

Lehner is the guy I'd go after.

A buyout for Dub makes as much sense as the Ennis buyout Fenton did. Little cap savings (and it's not needed) over just sending him to though waivers.

Yeah, I could see them burying him in the minors and just allowing him to go home instead of reporting. Maybe an injury occurs and they need him.

We wouldn't have the cap space for that unless you took back Loui.
