You think Ottawa needs to kick in more, I wouldn't mind another pick next draft then. As a sens fan would they be open to moving up. Do they covet laf that much or is it just they'll be happy to have whoever they get.

DET needs LaFreniere even more. They need a superstar, and he's the only one in this draft. They can work with Rasmussen and Veleno as your middle 6 Cs (which is what Cirelli is), but the need for talent trumps everything.

Also, that trade is awful. Think about the Lindros deal. The cost for 1OA would probably look like this:

DET sends 1OA
OTT sends 3OA (using the scenario above), 2020 1st round pick (SJS), 2020 1st round pick (NYI) and Josh Norris.

Idk it depends on what it would take. If it takes both picks in the top 10, I think for sure Ottawa says no. Like I dont think anyone values Laf over 2 of Stutzle, Rossi, Raymond, Holtz, Drysdale. But if its the Isles pick which could be in the 12-18 range plus another B prospect and say 1 or 2 2nd rounders including a high 2nd, id be tempted tbh

So essentially we trade Laf for Stutzle Why would we even entertain such a notion? Then we trade for Cirelli's RFA rights. If we add Stutzle then Cirelli isn't needed we already have Veleno and Rasmussen waiting in the wings. Neither team would do this especially Detroit we need an elite talent like Alexis Lafreniere as much as Ottawa this trade is bad for Detroit.

Exactly. OTT needs talent too, and depth.

Ill take Stutzle, Raymond, Schneider and keep Josh Norris lol. I prefer to have a team like St Louis instead of a team like Edmonton

Laf isn't lindros. He's gonna be good but he isn't a generation talent like McDavid or crosby. Lindros is the most extreme deal because of what people thought he'd be. If laf was Mario no one would move him for pretty much anything , but he isn't

I mean their sj pick will be top 10 but I wouldn't trade 3rd and say 6th for 1. Ottawa needs talent depth too.

Its so tough to know what someone would be willing to pay. It really comes down to specific Gm's and Teams motives. Montreal makes sense for them to pay just about whatever cost to move up. As much as Ottawa would love a Quebecois player like Laffy, I think the significance wouldn't be as important to them. The significance is the main reason for moving up at the costs it would probably take.

If Ottawa was already guaranteed Stutzle, whoever they'll get with the SJ pick and the 22nd, I think they'd be happy with what they have. Plus I think it may cost more than the 22nd and 3rd rounder to move up from 3 to 1. At that point it has to be a stupid overpay to make sense for Detroit. Trading away the 1st overall has to be a 100% guaranteed god move for them. Laffy is the best player in the draft and its not even close. You have to explain that to fan base and ownership. Might not be as easy as its sounds.
