Alex Pietrangelo is seeking 7 x 9.5. For 7 x 8 he'll stay in St Louis. And the salary cap wont be anywhere near $86 million. At the very most with the 3% escalator cap which the NHLPA implements will put it roughly between $83.5 to $84 million. Anything over that eats into their escrow.

Yeah he’s worth 9.5 but the tax situation in Nevada cuts it to 8

Pieterangelo is 30...anyone who gives him 7 or 8 (in STL case) would be dumb. He's great right now for sure, but he will decline and it'll be an albatross contract.

True but with Vegas's current cap situation, I seriously doubt they can afford Pietrangelo. They've like $11.3 million to spend on like 9 players if the cap stays at the $84 million mark. Doubt they can afford to add any expensive players unless they shed some of their expensive contracts.

Obviously, every team will be gunning to sign Pietrangelo should he hit UFA status this summer. My thought is that if he does not stay with the Blues, he will go to a Canadian team, or at least to a team out east, closer to home. I think though that Vegas should take a healthy run at signing Tyson Barrie. His subpar offensive season might give Vegas a bit of "discount" in both term and AAV. I wonder if Vegas would sign Barrie if was 6 years at $6.85 million AAV. Clearly, that would create a little more cap wiggle room.

I was just throwing out a relative number based on more recent comps, but sure that works. Vegas has a better group of defensive defenders to deal with what Barrie brings (and does not bring) to the table.
