Description
Hank buyout at the end of the year.

DeAngelo re signs.

Fast re signs.

Strome is still questionable.

Miller, Pajuniemi, and Lundkvist all play in the AHL next year.

Staal plays out his contract.

Smith is questionable, but likely to play out his contract as well.

Lias is gone (likely not for a 2nd, but who knows)

I still don't like this lineup...gonna be another tough year for NYR fans plagued by shoddy defense, but providing just enough hope by great offense.

I will agree with your explanation maybe a 3rd or a 4th but definitely 2nd at least not from Detroit.

I find it funny how the Rangers moved up into the draft to take Lias Andersson, And now he's looking like a bust. I actually wanted Holland to draft him. Boy did we dodge a bullet there.

Yeah, I think he's worth a 2nd or 3rd still at the very LEAST, but the hard part is finding a team that wants to trade for him. A 2nd rd pick (in a so-so 2021 draft year) for a Center prospect that has pretty solid 3c potential and is young, cost controlled, and has a bad reputation (so he can easily be extended for cheap) is a good deal, I would think.

buying out Hank would be such a sad thing to see, to save 3m in cap space next year...is that even worth it. You can retain 50% of his contract and trade him and have more cap savings than buying him out.

I agree completely...but

They have tanked his value by not playing him. Pundits all think he's washed up, when really he's just cold. They've made it pretty clear they are not playing him over Shesty/Georgiev, so nobody is going to trade for him when they can get him for free; they'll offer him a couple mil (vs 4.25) after the buyout.

If mike Smith can get a starting job after his season with the flames, hank can as well

A 1 year 4.5m gamble on him (in a retained scenario. There’s gotta be a market). Maybe not on a cup team but a team weaponIzumi their cap.. won’t get value back in a trade but feels like the right thing to do so it’s not a sour ending for a rangers legend

But Hank's not waiving to go to a non-cup team. Front office isn't in control here...Hank is. He's exercised his NMC before, I don't think he hesitates to do it again if it's not desirable for him (on a personal level (i.e. achieving a Stanley Cup)). He doesn't care about the difference of 1-3 mil.

They did not move up to take Lias. They traded for the 7th overall pick for Stepan to get him off the books. NYR then tried trading up to a top 5 pick for Elias Pettersson, but no team was interested in trading down. NYR then took what they considered the best available center with the highest floor, which was Andersson. It did not work out, but NYR were not looking at Lias the whole time.

Too soon to tell whether Henrik is bought out. There could easily be a team at the draft that is willing to offer something to NYR for Georgiev that would be worth it, as NYR have a plethora of goalies coming up through the pipeline (Wall, Lindblom, even Huska has looked solid).

Can’t think of a team off the top of my head but if a cup contender has a bad contract they want to swap. A lucic Neal
Type move but rangers are picking up a forward/dman instead.

I suspect if the Rangers don’t have Hank as part of the team next season, then the Rangers honourably trade him. You do not send a player of his status down. (He would be picked up on waivers anyway)

he has a NMC so hes not being picked up on waivers,. He goes where he wants to go.

Depending on what he wants to do, the fact that his salary is only 4.5m with an 8.5m cap hit, that can be temping to teams who can weaponize their cap space.
Carolina would be an interesting fit, they have the cap space and their roster is already basically set next year.

Andersson is doing pretty well playing in Sweden right now but I still dont think he has much trade value. Puljujarvi has had a whole season where he has done well and I bet he still doesn't have teams tripping over themselves to trade for him.

If he was sent to the minors (absurd) he would be claimed on waivers.
