Your overall structure is sound, although I disagree to a minor extent with many of your numbers, but my main objection to this construction is the idea that we would exchange the contract of a guy who doesn't cost us a dollar of cap hit or a roster spot, and whose salary is paid by insurance, for a guy who costs us a $6 million cap hit for two years, a roster slot and $8 million in real money. I don't see the value to Anaheim of that trade.

Due to the Canucks cap over the next few years, I think he will sign a 2 year bridge deal with a high salary in year two. Similar to what we've seen with Meier, Point, and others. This would help them get out of some contracts and free up the cap space needed to resign him once the bridge deal ends. I don't see how they can sign both Peterson and Hughes in the same off-season to long-term contracts.
