Look I know last summer is long gone but this is an idea I had floating around at the time and I can't help but think how helpful this would have been for both teams. The Leafs would have gotten a local top 4 shutdown RHD who they've coveted for many years at half retained (both to give the maple leafs cap flexibility while also increasing Tanev's trade value a bit). This would have just added a shade over $2 million in the cap for Toronto but they could have solved that over the summer as the trade likely would have been made last draft. Justin Braun is pretty similar to Chris Tanev and he got back an early second and a third last year so a full cap Tanev would have roughly gotten the same but with half retention the return would have increased a bit which is why instead of a second and a third the canucks get a first which is 3 years away however and a C- level prospect for Tanev. What do you think leafs fans? Do you think the maple leafs and Dubas would have accepted a trade like this last summer and do you think that the value is fair?
