Well that’s why, they wouldn’t be able to afford it

He’s worth at least 6 no? 7 is fair but 8 is a lot but he also could grow into it, and he’s already been incredibly good in his young career

So SJS is going to pay Cirelli $8,454,870. I'm not saying he isn't good but his numbers might be inflated just look at his scoring logs.

I understand what you linked but what’s wrong exactly. Some are with top guys and some are with Johnson and palat. What stands out to me most in what you linked is EV strength. Almost all even strength

He's been great, even very good. But you still have to consider he's playing for the best offense right now (244). Let's translate that to SJ's offense (180) for fun : 44/244 = 18,03% = 32 points for SJ. I know it does not work like this, but his stats are definitively inflated by TB's offense.

I will use Domi's contract negociation since i'm from MTL. They both have 44 points, yes domi is 3 years older but Domi had 38 in 59 3 years ago on a poor offensive team which is around the same. I would never have considered paying Domi that much at this moment and even now, he's worth something around 6-6.5 IMO

My only argument is Cirelli brings a lot more to a team then offence. He brings a lot more to a team then Domi. Point wise yes you could say no more then 6; but he’s an amazing two way Center for his age. He should only get better with experience and growth. If his output comparative is 6, I would say his defence and reliability give him a fair shot at 7 as to why I argue that I could see 8 possibly being a sound deal if he puts up 50-70 in San Jose and continues his defensive excellence

Cirelli brings defense. Domi brings grit and intensity. Both are non-offense quality. Both opinions are fine. My point is, Labanc is currently at 33 points and Cirelli would be around 32 (more or less). Seems a bit to give him 4 million more.

I love Labanc but I don’t think Cirelli would be a comparable for Labanc as Labanc is 1 dimensional.

If Cirelli was on the sharks and I wasn’t offer sheeting him, and Labanc had 48 points and Cirelli at 55.

Labanc - 4 years 4-4.8mil
Cirelli - 6 years 6.6 mil

Labanc - 6 years 5.5 mil
Cirelli - 8 years 7 mil

But there is also a lot of Stamkos, Kucherov, Headman and Killorn. Tampa is very deep offensively and that depth forces teams to spread out defensively. San Jose isn't nearly as deep offensively so teams can focus defensively on one line. I just don't think he will put up the numbers he is now in SJ. Giving up a 1st, a 2nd and a 3rd so you can pay a player about $2M more than any other team would. With the amount of picks SJS has traded away I don't think they trade 3 picks for one player.

TB can't afford to sign Cirelli this much. I'd try to negotiate a trade before OS this price.
