I don't think Barzel is worth $10 mil but with the contracts being handed out these days who knows

Can't imagine why the Isles wouldn't immediately match that.

Well, the Isles are in a cap crunch so it would be difficult - however, if Barzal is lost, this organization has no fill in / replacement. They really have no choice but to match it.

Barzal at 10 mill for 5 years >>>> Trading someone like Leddy for a mid round pick and giving up a sweetener to get rid of Komarov/Clutterbuck

Really, if you look at it, they've likely got $13-15 mil to resign Barzal, Pulock, Toews and a backup goalie (Unless Sorokin comes over...dear lord look at those friggin' KHL numbers!), and that's without trading anyone. If you move someone like Leddy, you've still got a decent d-core, and free up more space. Or even move one of Pulock or Toews. They've still got Pelech, Boychuk, Dobson, Mayfield, and Hickey (Maybe move him somehow? Wasn't picked up on waivers earlier in the year, but I'm sure there's a way to make it happen), and whoever of Pulock or Toews that they keep.

Would Monteal offering $10 mil hurt a bit? Sure, but with $71.38 mil spent on 18 players for next season, they've got enough flexibility to make it work. They've also got ELC's in Wahlstrom and Bellows that could fill holes rather cheaply.

Agreed. I think it's enough value for the Flames, but that D is going to look really, really bad next year with only Gio, Andersson and Valimaki signed (Plus Mete).

it's like the Shea Weber situation. Preds had to match Philly's offersheet for Weber because they lost Suter.

Leddy and Hickey can be traded. Komarov bought out. Revisit Ladd for Parise (yes cap is coming back but NYI wouldn't consider this unless they were saving money). Per Arthur Staple expect a 2x2 range bridge for Toews. It's so easy to make this work and you have multiple avenues of doing it. Not to mention who knows how much the cap is going up by. Isles not nearly in as much trouble as you think

Well Sorokin can only get 925,000 because he cant sign anything other than a 1 year 925,000(or less money)

Sorry, I'm on the side of "They can make it happen with very few issues!".

But yeah, Sorokin sliding in there would be moneyyyyy for the Isles.

All good hahaha, it was pretty word-y!

I think the Isles will be fine. I can honestly see Barzal taking something like 5 @ $9.5, but if people want to go crazy with offer sheets, they'll have no problem protecting themselves.

Not out of the question. Could see something similar to Tkachuk's 3 x $7 deal, where the salary escalates enough that his qualifying offer after year 3 is $9 mil (Maybe a bit more on the contract depending on the potential cap jump)
