Except that those picks are all not protected. The devils made us all think they would be great this year and they are now at the bottom. That could happen next year too and they could lose out on multiple lottery picks.

Holtz or Drysdale with the NJ pick and Sanderson/Lundell with the Arizona pick. You still have all your 2020 1sts lol

do you happen to know the difference between the d men over the last couple years?

where does drysdale, byram, sanderson, soderstrom, hughes, makar, and smith fall if you had to place them in terms of ceiling as a top pairing d?

The more I read the less of a ceiling it looks like smith has compared to when we initially drafted him

could very well happen next year though. Even with those three guys, probably only 1 of them jumps in immediately.

This is just my opinion btw:

Tier 1: Makar, Drysdale
Tier 2: Byram, Hughes
Tier 3: Soderstrom, Sanderson, Smith

To be fair not even Brannstrom or Valimaki have exploded yet so theres still time for Smith

so what you're saying is, draft drysdale, trade him for hughes, and have hughes, hughes, barzal, hischier, bratt, goose lol

If you could but star for star dont generally happen. Tier 1 and Tier 2 aren't that far apart imo. Its just to put them all apart, these players are all pretty close to each other

You would get your 1C, something I think you guys were looking for, because Hischier is not a 1C.

You are clearly biased though.

Right now, Nico is not looking like a top line center. It is possible that he is developing slower, but it is also possible that he never was meant to peak there. I see him as RNH comparable - the ideal 2nd liner but not somebody who will drive the top line.
I'll give you according to your name though, he does seem like more of captain material than any of your other prospects.

sure, but i'd expect you to also explain why hes not a 1C.

He's playing top line center on a bad team at age 21. He's not big but hes very strong protecting the puck and in the corners. He's extremely defensively responsible and is a leader in the room. His play gets better as the situation gets tougher, he can be counted on in all situations, and with all of this he's played through nothing but headwinds from both a teammate perspective, coaching perspective, system perspective, etc.

He's getting stronger each season and its beginning to show in the faceoff circle. On top of that he's playing more with the puck on his stick which is why hes scored more highlight type goals recently. He's 21 and only getting better

Oh well i agree with that, based on the original comment I took that as we are searching for a 1c so there isnt one in the system

if he doesnt continue developing then absolutely

Well. He is going into a slow start, and he isn’t getting a lot of points yet, he maybe able to be a 1C, but right now he isn’t going to be. I think he is a good 50-60 point guy who can play on the second line, and win face offs, and get a few points.

Young Def tiers
Tier 1: Makar [Dobson, Bouchard]
Tier 2: Byram, Hughes, Drysdale, Sanderson
Tier 3: Smith [Broberg, York]
Tier 4: Soderstrom [Harley]

Smith was final cut in 2018 as 18-year old. He will be fine.
