DAL laughs at that deal.

Hintz is our best young forward. Only overpayment will get him.

Especially if traded to a division rival.

Y’know, that could probably work. Winnipeg is probably one the only places Steen would waive to go and the Blues save close to 3 million by trading down 15-20 picks. My first choice is to trade Allen and cash in on his awesome season, but this could be something as well.

In theory, you're right. The problem is, we have no use whatsoever for Perreault. Eww.

Eh idk, Steen’s been pretty darn good this year, but I imagine Perrault could slide into his role and do fine. The analytics guys like Perrault a lot and honestly every bottom-6 guy the Blues have plugged in the last few years have worked well. I love the spectacle of drafting on the first night so I’d be opposed to trading down, but theoretically there’s hardly any difference between picks 25 and 50 so it wouldn’t hurt too bad.

Usually, that's true. Not this summer, though.

Agreed, but teams are totally gonna galaxy brain this draft. Would love to get at least a 2nd and another 3rd to catch some of the guys that slip

Yep.

DAL as a team is comparably quite old. Our prospect pool is thin, and we don't really have young NHL level forwards at the moment.

I would love little more than to have Hintz. He would fit the Blues system so well, and just be an absolute terror with our players.

Of course, I realize that is never going to happen (at least until he's like a 28-29 yo UFA and we have a very different team).

Every player have a price, although STL would be very unlikely to pay that much...

Teams just don't (or shouldn't) trade their good young players nor should the jets trade that package for Hintz IMO. Jets look good upfront. they have their top 6 under contract and have some young kids breaking through for the bottom 6, along with solid vets. Id be happy if the jets took that package and targeted a top 4 Dman.
I like the idea of Steen coming to the peg along with a first, but like people have mentioned...STL has no use for Matty P in the deal and I like him a lot. He just makes too much money for a bottom 6 and I doubt the jets would retain with 5.7 already coming back...that basically makes Steen a 7 million dollar cap hit

People like to sh*t talk Matty P, but he is a heart and soul type guy that has bounced around from top line to 4th line throughout his time with the jets. He doesn't complain and works his butt off. He does make too much money for his role, but after next season he'll be a UFA and I would love to see the jets re-sign him for about half his salary.

The Jets don't care about the cap hit...Steen is only making 3.5M in cash next year...

They'll care if Little is back, the resign Demelo and add a LSD. THis post has the jets cap at 86 mill and that's with some pretty team friendly deals. Plus there is no guarantee the cap is that high

Do you think the jets should try and take on a bad contract in order to add a first/2nd?

As long as its for only a year...It will helps us prepare for Laine and Pionk's extensions...and we get a higher draft pick
